In this case, the saying ‘money doesn’t buy driving talent’ could be wrong. Ford wants to teach GT500 buyers to drive them properly.

Everyone has seen the videos of Mustangs crashing. We aren’t here to judge or make any brash claims about Mustang drivers, but it happens quite a lot. There’s a lot to be said about people who have the money to buy a Shelby with tons of power and have no idea how to drive it with a little, we’ll say, pizazz.  In most cases, just because you can afford the car doesn’t necessarily mean you have the skill to handle it. However, Ford wants to do something about that.

According to Jalopnik, Ford is offering a free program for GT500 buyers to learn to drive their new beasts of a pony car exuberantly and prudently.  The last thing we want to see is a bunch of these getting wrecked. Evidently, Ford is on the same side of the fence. The GT500 Track Attack program will give GT500 owners professional instruction on driving these incredibly hopped up Mustangs.

In the program, Ford will teach owners everything about racing. Proper driving posture, seating positions, and braking and cornering techniques are on the docket. Additionally, participants will receive a reception dinner, receive driving instruction in a classroom, and even get a chance to ride in a GT500 driven by a Ford professional driver. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal, considering it won’t cost you anything if you buy a GT500!

The GT500 Track Attack program is held at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. This is the home of the Ford Performance Racing School, where non-GT500 owners can still sign up for various driving programs to learn how to drive like a pro. So even if you can’t afford the GT500, you can always take some lessons to become a master behind the wheel!

Overall, we think it’s pretty awesome of Ford to include this opportunity in the purchase of a new Shelby. They won’t cover your travel costs and amenities. However, if you are already spending the money on a GT500, it’s definitely worth the trip. Here’s the best part, too: you don’t have to use your own car. Ford provides them, so you can keep yours pretty and clean.
