Ford Patents Integrated Light Panels

Ford Patent

According to Car and Driver, Ford Motor company recently filed for a patent that could possibly lead to using lighting in new and diverse ways. The patent applications are for body panels that can be lit up through the use of LEDs. Essentially, Ford wants to be able to light up whole body panels, if they so choose.

Now the effects of such a technology can be fairly far-reaching and could lead to some truly amazing looking cars in the future. Imagine a Mustang without any turn signals. Just a line of LEDs integrated into the body panels of the car. It could lead designers to more flowing designs for cars.

However, don’t get too excited. Due to the strict laws surrounding lights in the U.S. — seriously, they’re messed up — these light panels most likely will never see the light of day on a production car. However, it could signal Ford using the technology with a concept car in the near future. Let’s just hope we get to see this innovative display mass marketed someday.
