When a car has a known birthday, it’s something rather special. This GT500 King of the Road was born on June 4th, 1968, and is just about the most exquisite example you’ll find around. The rare Acapulco Blue with Saddle interior combo was a dream find for Jack Bell, the man behind the restoration. He’d done a full teardown and discovered it was a rust-free example. Even though this is an early ’90s restoration, the work has held up very well.

This example has the original 428 Cobra-Jet motor and automatic transmission, and is noted for winning car shows. It was also featured in a few Mustang enthusiasts magazines in the early ’90s, where Carroll Shelby himself expressed his desire to have this very car.

That opportunity never arose. Instead, its last ownership transfer was to Charlie Emby, who enjoyed 11 years of ownership before trading it to Canepa for a 289 Cobra.

As one can expect with Canepa, the car is presented in the highest quality, and is ready to win shows and delight its new owner.
