Also spoke with Mays and Callum...2014 is the model year....don't look for a concept before hand...MY Touch and some tweaks next year in current car plus another SE (besides Boss)...Shelby (The company) also launches GTS Versions for V6 and V8...The 2014 Mustang will not disappoint.

no quote from ford on 2014MY vs calendar year, she called it 2014 but indicated she phrased the question as "50th anniversary"?

So let's see. According to the article the all new Mustang will be a 2014, but then J Mays says he still has two years to pick a design. Using the current availability of Mustangs it looks like this.
April '11 - 2012's available
April '12 - 2013
April '13 - 2014's available
Two years to pick a design puts us smack dab into April of 2013, the exact same time the 2014 should go on sale? Anyone see a problem with this logic?
And Ford would really do a rumored refresh for '13 for just one model year?

Might do some bumper cap work and other easy non-structural body panel stuff for '13 model year, then just colors and other minor stuff as their focus shifts to the '15 redesign coming out April '14.

in a recent interview with USA Today, J Mays, Ford’s Chief Creative Officer, revealed that he is feeling the pressure of designing the 2014 Mustang. Much of the interview is regarding the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, but Mays, who used to work for VW, helped design the New Beetle in 1999 and sees the 2014 Mustang as a similar challenge. Both cars are automotive icons, and expectations are high with the 50th anniversary of the Mustang coming soon. It “is weighing pretty heavy on my shoulders, and I’m not about to screw that up,” Mays said. This isn’t the first time Mays has talked about the pressure of designing the 2014 Mustang. Last year at the Paris Motor show he spoke about the challenge of the project:
“Mustang is an icon in itself. We will also only have a Mustang design language. As we approach what is a very exciting time – 2014 – the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, you can feel the weight on the design team’s shoulders that we get this thing right. It’s going to be a very exciting car, but have very little to do with Kinetic.”
With 2014 approaching we have got to take a jump forward. We can’t lose the Mustang DNA, which is really important, but we’ve got to signal that Mustang has got another 50 years of life left in it. In order to do that we are going to have take a bit more of a stretch with the car, bring all of our Mustang faithful along with us, and I would be lying to you to say that it’s not a daunting challenge, but the good news is that we’ve got a design team that’s up for the challenge and we’re on it. I have said it before and will say it again. Putting off the 50th until 2015 MY will only mean a years worth of lost sales, if Ford can make the next Mustang appeal to more buyers than the current design. I love this current design and it is the best out there, but a fresh new very well done design could mean more sales. Ford is losing sales because the styling on the mustang is too similar to what we have had since 2005.

Ford is losing sales because the styling on the mustang is too similar to what we have had since 2005.
While it may be similar to the previous gen in styling, that alone is not the only reason for its sales numbers. Thinking otherwise is just more speculation, or trying to justify the sales numbers.
And a model change does not instantly mean great sales either.
A lot of changes gather steam after being on the market for a couple of years as people start to pay their cars off and warm up to the changes.

I tend to agree with "more" rather than "less".
The 2010MY was a major restyle in the eyes of Ford who loudly made it known that virtually every body panel except the ones involving the roofline was altered from the previous model year. Its just that the retro styling scheme was retained that made it seem similar to the prior year.
It seems that the 2013MY restyle will stray much further away from the retro theme and while the same % of body panels may change as the 2010 restyle it will appear that much more changed due to a switch to a more modern style. Here's the quote of the rumored insider info
"Like all 2013 Mustangs, the GT500 will sport a body altered with the goal of looking somewhat less retro and more modern and edgy, according to sources. And, yes, we do take “modern” to imply the addition of LEDs to the head- and taillight assemblies. You won’t see any of the new bodywork in the spy photos here."
Besides Ford just revealed the newly styled Taurus after just 3 years with the orignal sheetmetal. Hmmmm . . . .the 2012MY Mustang marks 3 years using the current body style
I don't think Ford is willing to hand the sales crown over to Camaro for MY2013 & MY2014 without a fight so I expect more than just minor changes to the styling before the big change to the 50th anniversary edition in calendar year 2014 (debuting in April of course) for the 2015 MY.

Not gonna see a minor refresh for a 1 year product cycle. Just enough to warm the product up and keep things fresh.
Seems like people are constantly grabbing onto past practices instead of accepting the possibility of change.

I think Ford can do a lot of minor stuff to make the car look different without actually changing sheet metal. I think a good example would be to put a 1999 GT side by side with a 2004 GT. Minor changes in the hood, headlights, wheels, spoiler really do make these cars look different. Ford can perhaps go a step further with a new grille. I think maybe some BOSS 302 stuff can dress up the standard GT a year or two down the road like the 2001 Bullitt did for the 02-04 GTs.
