CoolTech Rear Tow Ring install
CoolTech Rear Tow Ring install
I bought the awesome cooltech set of front and rear tow rings for my 2013 Boss LS. There is an issue on the front for 2013s only that Kendall and I are working through but the rear dropped in as per the instructions.
Here's a short writeup and a few pics

Follow the instructions pretty much to the letter.
Start in the trunk by removing the rear panel wing nuts

Then the push-in retainers

Pull straight up (there are two more reatainers - the two greenish ones in the pic) and undo the trunk light connector. Set the panel aside

Remove the three tail light nuts on both sides

Push the tail lights out, disconnect the wiring and set them aside

Remove the three screws - I've had this goofy little screwdriver for ever. Sure comes in handy from time to time. Without it you can try a stubby or jacking the car up may give you enough room with the suspension extended

Pop both of these push pins out on both sides just behind the rear wheel well

Cooltech says you may break these - I didn't, but they provide hardware if you do. There are two of these connecting the lower black facia in the center of the rear

Disconnected this connecter, pull the grommet out where it passes through the back of the trunk and feed all the wiring, connector and grommet through the hole to allow the rear facia to be removed completely

Once all the fasterners are removed give a good tug.

There are two of these. If you lay under the car looking back toward the bumper you'll see them. The lower facia black plastic is attached here

Rear facia removed - not to difficult all in all

Remove the three mounting bolts

You have to drill out the one existing hole/threads on the upper left for a larger stronger bolt provided by cooltech.
BTW I had to drill the plate hole as well in order to allow the bolt to pass through

Bolted up no problem

I used a holesaw, hacksaw and a jig saw (creatively).
I also used a drill as a router to carve out the recess for the gusset (horizontal trough next to the hole)

This is the coolest thing in the world. Cooltech provides a screw in awl thing that marks exactly where to drill. Its dead on accurate. Mount the facia back up. I had mine pretty well in place but not all snapped in and buttoned up and the resulting hold lines up perfectly. I did snap in the 4 or so fastners along the lower trunk line

Pilot hole drilled and masked to protect finish

Hole drilled

Reverse the removal steps to get the rear facia back on. Tow ring sits perfectly!

Cool Tech provided plug when not in use

There you have it. Took about 2 hours, but I had much more confidence in what I was doing having done the front a couple weeks ago.
