Ryan Preece No. 41 Ford Mustang Crash at Daytona NASCAR

Ryan Preece was able to exit his No. 41 Mustang racer after the horrifying crash, but was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Longtime NASCAR fans have certainly seen their fair share of wrecks over the years, and one could argue that these accidents are at least part of what makes the racing series so exciting in the first place. However, while modern stock cars are far safer than they used to be, that doesn’t mean they can’t still be rather dangerous. In fact, we saw this on full display at the recent Cup Series race at Daytona, where Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece rolled his Ford Mustang a grand total of 10 times in a horrifying incident that resulted in him having to go to the hospital afterward. Luckily, according to the Stewart-Haas Racing team, he wound up being OK, and has been released from the Halifax Medical Center, however.

This is obviously great news, especially after watching the crash take place, as Ryan Preece went for one heck of a wild ride that lasted a grand total of eight seconds in real time. It started when Preece – who was in contention for the race win and a playoff berth – was bumped from the rear by fellow driver Erik Jones while drafting in the outside lane on lap 156.

This caused him to spin sideways and cut through traffic before hitting the infield grass, after which the No. 41 Mustang took flight. Once air got under the car, it was all over – the pony car began to flip and roll multiple times, during which it caught air twice more before finally coming to a stop.

Shockingly, Preece was able to exit the car – which was sitting on its roof at this point – which is always a good sign. However, the AMR Safety Team put him on a stretcher and took him to the infield care center before he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Luckily, it wasn’t long before he was released, largely unscathed.

“NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece will remain overnight at Halifax Health Medical Center for continued observation,” the Stewart-Haas team said in a statement. “The driver of the No. 41 Ford Mustang is awake, alert, and mobile and has been communicating with family and friends. Preece will undergo another evaluation by medical personnel later this morning. An update will be provided in the afternoon.” Reece later provided an update via social media himself, noting “if you want to be a race car driver, you better be tough.”
