Ford Sticks to the Plan for 2018 Shelby GT350

2018 Shelby GT350 models will be offered with new color options and standard convenience features.

As the saying goes, why mess with a good thing? That’s especially true if that good thing is a car as popular as the Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R.

More of the great same seems to be Ford’s thinking, considering that the Detroit carmaker has opted not to change much on the track-centered models, despite some significant changes to the other Mustangs in the lineup.

The Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R do, however, get three new color offerings: Orange Fury, Kona Blue, and Lead Foot Gray. They’ll also be available with an Electronics Package that features Ford’s latest-generation Sync infotainment system, voice-activated nav, and a 9-speaker audio system.

The GT350 and GT350R will also be available with a Convenience Package. That swaps out the manually-adjusted Recaro seats with 6-way power adjustable seats with heating and cooling features and suede inserts. Sounds like Ford might have gotten a few requests to make comfort a bit more standard in the Shelby GT350.

Ford also notes they will continue to offer the GT350s with engine oil, transmission, and differential coolers as standard. That follows a number of consumer complaints about earlier models of the track-focused Mustang, which were overheating. The pair of Shelbys will also come standard with magnetic dampers and a Brembo brake package featuring 6-piston calipers and 15.5-inch discs on the front axle.

This 2018 Shelby GT350 and GT350R news definitely helps curb rumors that Ford was planning to replace the two cars with a GT500 model. Well, at least for now.

But the fact that the carmaker has decided not to make any major mods to the pair of track-focused Mustangs for 2018 could be an indication that they are ramping up for something much bigger in the near future.
