Rumor has it that a few variations of the new Mustang are in the works. Renderings for potential specialty models have been popping up everywhere. Of course, whether any of them actually see the light of day is still pretty much speculation at this point, but we certainly like reveling in the images.

One of the latest we’ve come across is a design for a new Cobra R.  The concept is the brainchild of StangTV journalist Don Creason, who envisions the variant being launched as a 2016 model powered by a twin turbo V8 “Voodoo” engine with more than 650 horsepower.

The new Cobra R, which Creason says would add a much needed performance model to the new Mustang line-up, should feature a lowered suspension, a heat extractor styled hood and a taller rear wing.

Creason also notes that modifications like a NACA duct in the quarter glass could provide fresh air to the driver or feed a rear differential cooler to help improve the s550’s performance capabilities.  The StangTV editor has even come up with a cost for his 2016 Cobra R concept, suggesting that the car be priced at $59,000.

What’s your take on the idea?
