Are These SSP Fox Bodies Priced to Move?

We all know Fox Body Mustangs have been slowly creeping up in value over the last year, thanks primarily to The Smoking Tire’s own Matt Farah. However, it seems these two ‘Stangs have jumped on the value rocket. The seller wants $21,500 for the pair. Isn’t that a bit high?

These classics are the first SSP (Special Service Package) Mustangs ever built, so some would argue $21,500 is a bit low. Ford built them in 1981 for both the CHP (California Highway Patrol) and the State of Texas as testers for each department.

The first car was sold to the CHP for just a single dollar. Ford also installed a roll cage due to the fact that the car was slated to become an Emergency Vehicle Operation Course training car, so we can assume this one saw some staggering abuse.

The second Fox Body is from Texas, but never saw active duty. After two weeks in the hands of the police, the car was shipped back to Ford to help further develop the SSP program. This one definitely looks a bit rougher around the edges, and most likely needs extensive restoration.

The two cars are being sold as is. You can find the listing right here. What do you think? Should we start a collection pool and save these very special Mustangs?
