Simple Tricks to Make Your Driving Better

We’re all susceptible to falling into bad driving habits, so it is better to teach good ones early. Have a new driver in your stable or one coming up soon? Car Throttle‘s advice in the video below could be very important to heed. Let’s take a look at the more important points.

Looking ahead and paying attention to cars in the distance:

Beginner drivers have a habit of “looking down the hood” of a car, because they are nervous about running into something. However, having an “eyes up” approach to driving will keep you well aware of situations down the road. If you’re with a new driver, ask them occasionally what they are looking at while they drive.

Learning to drive a manual transmission:

It may seem like a given, but there’s far too many people out there who don’t know the lost art of a manual gearbox. There’s a reason why it is nicknamed a “millennial anti-theft device.” Driving a manual transmission makes you more aware of your surroundings, and makes it far less likely for that new driver to pick up their phone.

Car control:

States in the rust belt see a regular amount of snow, and learning how to correct a slide is essential for staying safe in the white stuff. Pick a big ‘ole parking lot on a snowy day, or even take a professional defensive driving course. Some insurance companies will provide a discount for the latter.

Reversing and parking:

If you take a look a bumpers in your local city, you’ll see all sorts of rubs and scrapes. Body shops love this kind of business, but if you’re looking to keep your fenders clean, teach proper parallel parking techniques. Some may never have to use it, but they should carry the skill just in case.

Can you think of any other tips for new drivers?
