Qvale Mangusta: More Than Just a Mustang in Italian Dress

It Blends Italian Styling and an American Heartbeat, but Is the Qvale Mangusta Actually Special?

In many ways, the Qvale Mangusta can be seen for what it is: a Mustang with an Italian-designed exterior. It turns out it is far more than that.

The limited-run Mangusta is a bit of an obscurity. It started life as a revitalization of the DeTomaso name. But DeTomaso pulled the plug, leaving the Qvale family to finish off the project. Like any Italian car, it has its quirks, but it wins over just about anyone who drives it, including Doug DeMuro in the video above.

“Surprising,” seems to be the common theme among all attributes in this car, considering most folks would expect the drive to be similar to a Mustang. It isn’t. Of course, the forward momentum is similar to that of the GT, but everything else is a different experience altogether. The interior is a vast upgrade from the slightly-plastic Mustang interior, with stitched leather surfaces covering literally everything.

So, the Qvale is more than just a body kit on a Mustang. This is evidenced by some of the car’s quirks, such as the kink in the door frame. And especially the unique way the targa roof swoops into the body when it is prompted to fold down.

Unique cars like this shouldn’t be priced in the mid-30s. That’s a heck of a steal, if you ask us.
