The new 2015 Ford Mustang has earned one of its first awards being voted “Best Production Car” at the 2014 North American International Auto Show.

Voted on by 30 of the top current and retired lead automotive designers, the winner of the award is selected for its overall design among all production vehicles on display at the Detroit show, which officially opened Jan. 13.

Of course, the real test will come much later this year after the official launch of the new Ford pony car and those highly coveted “Car of the Year” awards start rolling in.

However, if past winners of the Detroit design award are any indication of what the future holds for the 2015 Mustang, expect to see the Ford pony car pull in a lot more awards rolling into next year’s show.
