Mustangs Shipped to Australia Will Not Feature Burnout Mode

Mustang Line Lock feature

Given the popularity of the new Mustang, it’s hard to imagine there would be any downside for a market slated to get their hands on the car for the first time.

That is, unless you’re Australia.

Of all the countries that the new Mustang will be shipped to as part of the car’s global rollout, the Land Down Under is the only one in which models will not feature the car’s new burnout mode, according to a Drive report.

It appears that before the cars can be shipped, Australia’s anti-hooning laws require Ford to disable the electric line-lock feature that can be used for burnouts. And potential consumers aren’t the only ones that seem to be upset. Even Dave Pericak, Ford’s global performance boss, is a bit ticked off by it all.

“Australia is the only market that I had to shut it off. That really did upset me because it’s a great feature,” Pericak told Drive.

However, considering that reports indicate that the line-lock feature will only be “disabled,” it leads you to speculate that the burnout mode might not be completely out of the question for those Aussies who are somewhat mechanically inclined.
