Mustangs in Movies: Schwarzenegger Gives Us Two in ‘Twins’

Mustang on Two Wheels in Twins Home

Before he became the Governator, before he became “Kindergarten Cop,” Arnold Schwarzenegger was the biggest action star in the world (come on, Stallone, admit it.) Then Arnie did something out of character: Twins.

Twins is actually a seminal movie in Arnie’s career, not just because it was his first foray into comedy, but because it was his first time acting alongside one of the most talented stars in the business: the ’87 Ford Mustang GT Convertible (Danny DeVito ain’t bad either, but he’s no Mustang).

Regardless, the little red vixen shines throughout the film, but no more so than in the scene below, which features Schwarzenegger’s character, Julius, learning to drive. Though his first driving experience taking place in such a fine automobile may deem all Julius’s future cars unworthy, the ride is still highly entertaining, especially when the perfectly ’80s montage-music kicks into high gear. Just listen to that groove as Julius puts his Stang up on two wheels; it’s nearly as impressive as the stunt itself.

Interestingly enough, a few years later, the folks at Ford who were finalizing their designs for the 1994 redesign had narrowed down their choices to three frontrunners. They nicknamed those designs “Bruce Jenner,” “Rambo,” and “Arnold Schwarzenegger.” That “Arnold Schwarzenegger” won out obviously has something to do with the scene above.
