There’s a huge Mustang milestone upon us this week: the 52nd birthday of the Ford pony car.

And why is that a big deal? Well, as our friends at The Drive point out, 2016 marks the first full year of production of the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R, which gives us ample time to measure the great success Ford has seen from the cars. It just goes to show that 52-years later, the Ford Mustang is still going strong.

The story also touches on some high points of the Mustang over the past 52 years, including the first Mustang purchased by Gale Wise in 1964 for $3,447.50 and the 30th anniversary of the Mustang in 1994.

Then there’s 1968, when Shelby launched the Mustang GT 500-KR, which stood for “King of the Road.” Today, such a car would fetch about $230,000 for a mint condition model.

King of the Road indeed. Yep, that pretty much says it all.
