Mustang GT and Shelby GT350 Glow at New York Auto Show

With all the crazy talk about small cars or no cars at all in New York City, you always wonder how a vehicle like the Mustang will be treated and received at an event like the New York International Auto Show.

After all, there’s not a lot of use for all that performance in a city overrun by pedestrians, taxis, and an insane public transit system – unless you’re one of those Mustang fans lucky enough to live on the outskirts of the city. In the thick of New York, however, open road is scarce. You just don’t see a lot of sports cars revving though places like Times Square or Park Avenue.

In fact, it’s hard to even picture one fitting in at all, unless it was tied to a Ford promo event, or perhaps a movie like “I Am Legend,” where Will Smith’s character (Dr. Robert Neville) drives one in a post-apocalyptic New York City, while chasing deer for one of his experiments.

For a typical day in NYC, the idea of a whipping a Mustang around just seems like a bit of a stretch. And yet, the Mustang still proved to be quite the draw at the show — especially the Shelby GT350, as you can see in the photos below.
