Here’s Why You Should Watch ‘The 24 Hour War’ Documentary
You may already know about the titanic rivalry between Ford and Ferrari. But perhaps you may not know the inner workings of said rivalry. You may know that Ford once nearly acquired Ferrari, but you may not know exactly why the deal went sour.
If you’re hungry for such racing and history knowledge, there’s only place I’d recommend you search. Sure, you could read a ton of books, watch a bunch of YouTube videos, or even try to piece many stories together and make your own conclusion, but that’d be silly when you could just watch The 24 Hour War and hear first-hand from the most respected sources in the motorsport industry.
The 24 Hour War was produced and directed by Adam Carolla and Nate Adams, and includes commentary from Henry Ford III, Edsel Ford II, Piero Ferrari, Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, David Hobbs, Bob Bondurant, Peter Brock, John Surtees, and Mauro Forghieri.
The roughly 1 hour and 40 minute film will take you deep into the intense negotiations that happened between the two powerhouses, as well as the superhero-like efforts that took place in both garages to beat each other at the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. Some of the stories told by the likes of Piero Ferrari and Edsel Ford, both of whom were just children when this took place, will help you understand how these two men directed their racing teams and efforts with one goal in mind.
As with most 1966 Le Mans documentaries, a portion of the story is dedicated to the controversy regarding Ken Miles and Denny Hulme losing their victory to Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, despite leading the closing stages of the grueling race. The 24 Hour War sheds new light on this controversy, and it’s, well… controversial to say the least.
