Most Epic Mustang Save Ever?

By -

Is This Close Call at Houston’s NRG Center the Best Mustang Save Ever?

Some people don’t really understand the dangers of driving in a straight line. We’re not trying to be facetious here, drag racing is risky business. If something happens during that quarter-mile run, you can hit the crash barrier awfully quick. That’s what makes this save even more epic.

At roughly the 6:05 mark of the video above, the driver of this drag-prepped Mustang nearly eats it on the last run. The event was set up like a street-race drag event, meaning it took place in the parking lot of Houston’s NRG Center and not on a race-prepped surface at a dedicated track. That makes traction… iffy.

The Fox Body begins steering out of control, just like many Mustangs at Cars and Coffee events. But the driver doesn’t lose his cool. After counter-steering a few times, and nearly rolling the car over, he gets control just short of the crash barrier.

The Mustang appears to be no worse for wear after the ordeal. I’d imagine the tires are a bit flat-spotted. The interior might be problematic too, because this was most-assuredly a Code Brown moment.

It’s not the only epic save we’ve seen, but it’s probably the closest to catastrophe that we’ve come across in a long time. It really could’ve been much worse.

Stay safe out there, friends.
