1. Bradenton Florida

The 15th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem in Bradenton Florida was a showcase of Mustangs culminating in a smoking win from Randy Thomas in his Grabber Blue Shelby GT500 with a field destroying 8.82-second average speed. You can read about this great drag strip here.

2. The Dutch

Ford proved its dominance at the NHRA Pennsylvania Dutch Classic held in October at Maple Grove Raceway. Paving the way at the Dutch was Chris Holbrook who clocked the quickest Stock Eliminator pass of all time at 8.12 ET/167. 3. Tierp Arena

Who says drag racing is king on this side of the pond? One of the world's premier strip is located in Sweden, just an hour north of Stockholm. The American's didn't disappoint. Bo Butner took his 2012 Cobra Jet to the track and in three runs, broke the standing record with an incredible 8.53, the fastest time in all of Europe. Check out all the details here

4. Norwalk Ohio

In the 2016 NMCA World Street Finals in Norwalk, Ohio, a rookie captured the imagination of any budding drag racer watching this venerable race. Matthew Bell took a 2015 Mustang out of the salvage yard and rebuilt it into a 2016 Cobra Jet. He paired up against the well-known veteran of the track, Roy "The Hillbilly" Hill. Bell smoked Hill off the line but crossed the 1/4 mile line slightly behind Hill with an impressive 9.051 E.T. for a rookie's first run. You can read about Bell's exploits here

5. Indianapolis

Just before his spectacular win at the Dutch, Holbrook won the factory showdown class at the U.S. Nationals in Indy with a smoking  8.23 ET at 165 mph, the quickest pass in NHRA Stock history. Take a look at his car and the incredible run here.

6. Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, NJ

The Grandaddy of the drag racing scene is likely the venerable Old Bridge Township Raceway Park located in NJ. Ford made its mark in 2016 with its first return to pro stock with an impressive run by Charlie Wescott Jr. running at 6.88 and 203 mph. Though he was eliminated, the run is more remarkable considering he builds his own engines. You can read about this classic track at Mustang 360.

7. Fontana

The Auto Club Dragway in Fontana is the site of NHRA divisional races, and leading the pack in the 2016 run was John Calvert. Making his way through 7 grueling rounds, he set the pace with the fastest qualifying run in the Stock Eliminator class at 8.395. Check out this track at www.autoclubdragway.com.

8. Atlanta Dragway

Just outside of Atlanta is the site of the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals in Commerce, GA. 2016 marked the first year for the new class, Factory Super cars. Paving the way for this new class was Randy Eakins who took his 2014 Cobra Jet with an 8.59 elapsed time over Kevin Skinner, also in a 2014 Cobra Jet. Check out the Atlanta Dragway here.

9. Gainsville, FL

Gainsville Florida is the site of the famed NHRA Gatornationals. Although he red lighted the final round, Skinner took the top spot in the qualifying rounds with a blistering 8.499 ET at 160mph. Ford continues their drag racing domination with his 2014 Cobra Jet that you can read about here.

10. Phoenix, AZ

The 2016  Carquest  Autoparts NHRA Nationals was held at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix. Leading the charge in the Funny Car class was yet another Ford, a Shelby Mustang driven by Tim Wilkerson. Wilkerson took the win in the finals with a smoking 3.966 run at 320.43 mph.
