Slideshow: Coyote Powered 1966 Fastback for Street & Track

When you’ve been building cars as long as Mark it takes more than a little weather to ruin your day. Instead of parting the car out Thomure went to work and built it bigger and better than it’s ever been.

Gateway to Success

It started by swapping in a Coyote motor from a company called Gateway that puts up a solid 400 horsepower at the rear wheels. The engine itself is as eye-catching as the shape of the ’66 it sits in and looks like overkill in the best possible way. Everything, surprisingly, fits under the stock bodywork which makes this car completely unassuming.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

And, that’s one of the best parts about this build: it doesn’t shout about anything until it’s too late. From the exterior to the interior, the average guy must have no clue until it’s all over. From the paint to the trim on the dash it looks more factory showroom than capable track weapon.

Race Horse

Classic cars are awesome to drive at the racetrack if they’re set up correctly. Besides, what’s the point of having all that horsepower if you don’t do something with it on the weekend? This car sees challenging track work at places like Mid-American where it holds its own against machines old and new! Opposite lock and a 60s Muscle car? Count me in!

Built Mark Tough

Mark is a boss who didn’t just write a check like many “builders” do in the tuner community, where they have someone create their baby. Of course, having a background as a professional wrench in shops that specialize in building these cars doesn’t exactly hurt either. Nuts and bolts were tightened by the guy sitting behind the wheel which isn’t something everyone can brag about!

Overall Impressions

This car has to be one of the nicest 60s Mustangs out there and that’s before you remember it can hit the track putting a lot of other cars to shame. Mark Thomure made his cake and he’s eating it too. If that isn’t the best way to enjoy this classic dual overhead cam stunner I’m not sure what is! Thanks for reading.
