1. The Mighty Shelby Mustangs of the Late 60's

By the late 60's, the muscle car war was in full swing. So when Ford and the legendary Carroll Shelby teamed up, it was time to put the world on notice. And these two ads did just that. With the Shelby GT500 KR, Ford wanted you to know that you basically had two choices - buy one, or get outrun by one. Who wouldn't want a car with 0-60 times that will "snap your eyeballs?" And if you prefer to have a little style with your speed, you could opt for the convertible Shelby GT350 or GT500, both of which came with the "best roll bar in the business!"

2. Should a Man in His 50's Be Allowed out in a Mustang?

The very first Mustang quickly garnered a reputation as a car for the younger generation. But Ford wanted you to know that even if your days of wild frat parties were long behind you, that doesn't mean you can't buy a Mustang. In fact, driving one is like finding a veritable "Fountain of Youth" that will put a "little mysterious smile" on your face and a "new spring" in your step.

3. Take the Mustang Pledge!

For some reason, the "Mustang Pledge" was a thing back in the 60's. Apparently, Ford wanted to lay down some ground rules for buying one, mostly because, well, we don't really know. Anyhoo, the Mustang comes with over 100 options, and the stereo tape player will apparently keep the neighbors up all night. And remember that when you take the pledge, you aren't allowed to show off your Mustang's overhead console. Right.

4. 1970 Boss 302 - Son of Trans Am

In one of the most accurate ads we've ever seen, Ford left no mystery as to the 1970 Boss 302's origins or intentions. This was a car built to satisfy Trans Am homologation rules, plain and simple. You got one body style and a whole bunch of race grade goodies for a price lower than those fancy European sports cars. Although we'd gladly pay $9,000 for one today, too.

5. Mach 1 - Pronounced Mach Won!

Mach 1, Mach One...get it? All puns aside, the 1970 Mustang Mach 1 (or One, or Won) was one of the greatest Mustangs in history, and Ford wanted you to know that. Plus, it had the racing chops to back up those awesome claims. Especially if you opted for that amazing 428 Cobra Jet powerplant. And boy, do we wish we could hop in a time machine and do just that at the original MSRP.

6. We Hereby Pronounce you "Man and Mustang"

So we often joke about marrying our cars, but Ford actually went there with this hilarious ad. No matter which body style you choose, there's no way you're not going to become instantly smitten with your pony car. So go ahead and preemptively apologize to all the single ladies out there, because you're officially off the market big guy.

7. Mustang GT - Bred From the Ford GT

When the GT blazed onto the scene and destroyed the dreams of Italian racers across the world, Ford understandably bragged about it. A lot. And like any good automotive manufacturer should, they used some of the technology they developed in racing and trickled it down to their production cars. And what better car to slap the GT badge on than the Mustang?
