3.73 swap on my 05 GT

I've exhausted my Google-fu for the day so I said heck with it and I'm asking lol..... I wanna have some 3.73's installed this coming spring, Im not too certain 4.10's would be good for a semi-daily car. It doesn't see everyday action in spring/summer but it's not a weekend/show car either. Do I need to buy say...an LSD, and if so which is recommended? I don't plan to but there's a very outside chance I might boost it someday so will one or the other ve recommended? If I DO boost it, it won't be for about 3-4 years.

I should also add per the LSD question, I don't plan to race it ever so, would there be any real advantage of having an lsd or posi?

The GT came with Traction -Loc (LSD) as standard equipment, so no worries there

Mine is a manual and when I first got it I put 373's in because that's what I had in 90, hoping to get that low end torque feel that the 5.0 had. It was better but still not like the old 5.0, so I thought I probably should have gone with 410's. If it's an auto I think most guys like the 410 best. Then a little later I put a supercharger on and the 373's are about perfect, with 410's I would have no traction at all.

The more I thought about it after I posted, I came to the conclusion that without boost, the 3.73's might not be worth it for the stark difference I was hoping for since I have the stock GT 3.55's......Maybe I'll look into other mods this season instead.

Don't fear the gear. Going with a lower gear ratio does not effect traction. Yes it gets more torque to the wheels but tires and suspension are what effect traction. You don't have less traction, you have more torque, big difference between the two. If you add another 200 hp and 200 ftlbs of torque to your motor it is going to be easier to break the wheels loose. But that is not an issues with less traction, it is an issue of just having more power to deliver which is a good thing, no?

Anyways, I have 4.10's, boost and she is a daily, with no issues. I cruise at about 2500 rpm's at 70 mph. You are correct that there won't be much difference between 3.55's and 3.73's, but going to 4.10's will give you the best seat of the pants feeling any mod can give you.

Are you a 5spd or auto? How's your in town driving like, from stop sign/light to the next and such? Cops are really bad around here and fastest biggest speed limit is 55. Very short stretch of 65 but I usually go 65 in the 60.

Jcreek79, like you I was on the fence between 3.73 and 4.10. I chose the 4.10 and am very happy with them. They are perfect for my preferred mountain roads and canyon carving and have not presented a problem on several 400+mile road trips cruising at 75 to 85. 07 Boss is right on about the seat of the pants boost, you really feel it right away.

I can vouch for that from personal experience. I upgraded to 3.73s when my stock 3.55s developed a whine i couldn't take anymore. Could you feel a difference? Sure. Would making that small of a jump be worth the cost of having it done? Probably not. I'd probably put it in the same difference as getting a under drive pulleys.

With that low 1st in the TR3650 .... I am pretty happy with the 3.31s .... it can be hard on tires as it is.

4.10's probably aren't in the cards for me then. I'm running out of mod ideas since looking into what I want out of the car and what I "use" it for wouldn't be cost effective to ever add boost, most all the grills I don't like, I might add a hood and other than that I'm lost as to how I wanna proceed. I was hoping y'all would tell me A OH YEAH 3.73's DO IT MAN!! Lol oh well

Had 4.10s in my 07 manual GT for years now. Probably 9 years now. Been boosted for 7 years now at least. Had 3.31s stock. Before the boost the 4.10s woke the car up really well. Supercharger is a twin screw which has more low end torque than a centri. The 4.10s with 11 psi of boost are a hoot. I love them and don't regret them at all. With suspension and tires (drag radials) she's a beast to drive but she will hook up. Absolutely no regrets and I am so glad I got the 4.10s for either boosted or not. No regrets. Love driving the car so much. Puts a **** eating grin on my face at every stop light, on ramp, and I can even pass in fifth gear. It freaking pulls in 5th!
