X-Plan Pricing
Anybody realized that the base price just went up and the performance package by a large amount?
I was pricing out my 2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium

Priced a F150 Lariat on line, the difference between MSRP & X Plan, built my way, was $ 3060.00. And you can still take advantage of any rebates / incentives available @ the time.

Great spread sheet, but I still don't understand how it works, how are you eligible to use it and how much do you save? Is it a % or a set amount over cost?

It may have changed since; but when I looked at X-plan in 2010:
X-Plan was a fairly good "pre-negotiated" price that took all the haggling and uncertainty out of the deal; you knew up front exactly what you were going to pay and it was a pretty good deal. Everything is clear and predetermined with Ford and there are no surprises.
However, it you like to haggle and take your time looking for a deal, you could do better than X-Plan price . . . but you have to be careful about gotchas like the "paperwork fee" that some dealers charge, that they don't tell you about until the last minute when you are actually signing the deal.

The short answer is that x plan is a percentage discount off msrp, given to suppliers and vendors of Ford Motor Company. The discount differs with each vehicle.
It is similar to A plan which is Ford employees (and a bigger discount) and Z plan which is dealer employees.

NEVER pay MSRP unless it's for a model that is in very high demand (super high demand / low quantity models you may end paying more than MSRP). Otherwise:
You can ALWAYS get a better price through negotiating or using a letered plan.
Generally, unless you are A/Z/D plan, the best price you can get is via aggressive negotiating. X-plan makes it easy - you get a good price with no haggling. I've been using X-plan for 9 years now, saving myself the effort of negotiation. Frankly, I love negotiating and had always gotten the price down to several hundred dollars above cost. I recognize the dealer has to make money. And they make money in other ways besides the simple sale . . montly items such as "dealer holdout" and more, all behind the scenes you wouldn't be aware of.
If you walk in, shop and buy based on window stickers, they'll be more than happy to part you with more of your money.

If you don't work for a Ford affiliate, you can also get X-plan pricing by buying 100 shares of Ford stock and holding them for 6 months. Ford stock is pretty cheap at about 12 bucks a share plus you get a 5% dividend. You should be able to get about $3,000 off a premium GT - not bad for a $1200 investment.
