351 Windsor Rebuild

So i have a line on a 351 w out of a ford van. I want to drop it in my 65 mustang which currently has a 289 4 speed in it? Any thoughts on that move?

Also I think motor is fine but if i decided to throw a quick rebuild on it, what kits would be the best for around 300 bucks or so?

I want the Windsor obviously for the horsepower and cool factor what you think?

any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

unless you do some things to beef up the 351 you will be very disappointed with the swap . they are not any better performing in stock form .. .. you would be better off hopping up the 289 ..

what about a 1996 ford explorer 5.0 gt40 v8 complete motor? I heard those were good engines to put in?

but wait !! there`s more ... if your car is something special like a GT or at minimum a C or K code you will hurt its value with an engine change ...and again the 289 can be built to perform every bit as good as the 5.0..

Good bargain engine!
but if you do a cam swap which you will want to because the stock cam is a truck cam and stops making power at 4,500 rpm, you have to change valve springs which costs a couple hundred bucks, plus only certain headers will work because of the angle of the spark plugs on the GT40p heads.
If you have a good 289, I would just put some good heads, cam intake, carb and exaust and you can easily make 300 hp at the tires!
