Cheap beater/daily tire for Brembo wheels

So I've been looking for an inexpensive daily tire I won't feel bad dropping the clutch on and performing general shenanigans with. Like some of you I have 2 sets of wheels and tires. One dressed in high grip, performance type rubber, and the other dressed in whatever the was left of my stock pirellis.

With fall approaching I had to get a new set of dailes, and came across a deal I couldn't pass up. Out the door for all 4 installed in 255/40-19 for $560. That's $114 per tire plus tax, install, disposal etc. Not bad!

It's at Discount Tire, and it's by Barum which is an offshoot of Continental Tire. It's Ultra High Performance Summer and thread wear is 420. I don't have high performance expectations, but I'll let you know how this tire behaves.

Nice deal! They'll work fine I'm sure. Probably similar to the Nittos I have on my brembo wheels at the moment. They won't need as much heat to have a resemblance of grip too!

I broke the Nittos in with a nice clutch dump, recorded in slow-mo on my phone btw... Just saying...

Niiiiice! I'm a big fan of clutch drops. I love the smell of burned rubber in the morning. Or after work. Or in the evening...

I'm sure they won't perform like the max performance summer tires they replace, but at this price point who cares? Plus there are a lot more clutch drops in a 420 thread wear tire than in a 220 tire.

Here are a few pics.

Assuming you're not planning on driving these come winter?

Not bad. The tread looks like a cross between Conti and Bridgestone. Let us know how they perform!

I prefer the smell of hot brakes, then two stroke exhaust (reminds me of water skiing and dirt bikes) and then burnt rubber, in that order

and yeah those tires look pretty good, let us know how they smell

Ok, quick update, or some initial impressions about dry performance.

First of all, WOW these are LOUD. And I don't mean thread noise. I mean squeal at the slightest slip. I swear, I look at these tires the wrong way and they go "EEEEEE" hahaha. It's hilarious to me coming from proper Max performance summer tire.

Traction is OK for UHP Summer tire. They grip a little less than Pirellis did, and less than the S04s, but that's exactly what I expected.

No major update on lateral grip and wet grip yet. I will update later.

But they ride quiet and comfortable so far (assuming they aren't squealing).

Wow, that might be one of the ugliest side walls I have ever seen on a tire.

LOL, I might have to agree with you there. But for the purpose the OP wanted, I think it fits the bill nicely. OP, so if this thing hibernates over winter, when do you swap it out with your "nice" wheels/tires?

Ha, I have to agree with you. Strange sidewall design. But I can report wet traction is pretty good!

My other set is my track set, so I swap it a week or so before my events. I try to schedule 2 track day within a few weeks of each other so that I can put on my other wheel/tire set and race pads for a few weeks before swapping back to "street" mode.
