I have an 08 base model and of course like everyone else the door panels have fallen. I have read everything there is to read on forums and YouTube videos etc. I have tried 3M headliner adhesive, contact cement and they all fail. I understand that you are supposed to remove the old foam and adhesive with a wire brush before adding the new adhesive. Nothing has held more than a year. I am sick of this issue and honestly don't want to take it to have it done unless they can guarantee it will stay.

My my question is has anyone done anything else to make it look nice? Are there other door panel options out there? I want my car to look nice and not like trash! I can't believe this hasn't been recalled by Ford!

I used 2-part epoxy on my nephew's '07 panels a year ago and they are still in place.

Some one around here used a piece of round colored trim around the outside of the panel. I have glued mine with the 3m contact spray stuff. Seems to be holding. I will post a pic of the stuff I used when I get a chance.

I went the non-DIY route and visited a local upholstery shop. They fixed both panels back into position very cleanly, and they are holding strong.

One thing I have learned about the S197 is the interiors are cheap, cheap, cheap. The interiors in the old Fox bodies held up much better than these. Even the upholstery (and carpet) in my old '69 was in better shape at the same age.

These are not the ones that I was thinking of. The ones I've seen cover the entire area of that insert. This kit looks like it doesn't cover it all.

Yea the part from CJ is a partial overlay that's glued to the existing vinyl. I like this hard plastic piece. I have thought about give the contact cement another try but I used the heaviest 3M spray adhesive and it work fantastically until a year later when it fell back down. My fear with an upholsterer is that I will spend the extra cash and it will fall again. I think it will be much harder for this plastic piece to come down than the vinyl.

Epoxy - still holding. Went that route because I figured the contact cement and spray adhesives would fail after a summer or two of Georgia heat. Remove door panel, spread thin layer of epoxy, press the insert back in place and let dry for 30 minutes, then reinstall.

Scrape the foam off the door panels! Also, you can't reuse your original inserts, they won't glue up right a second time.


I went with the upholstery shop with mine. They have new door fabric (with the foam again just like OEM) and the correct glue needed to do the job right. Don't mess around and just do it right.
