Auto trans wishful thinking
Bought a '16 magnetic metallic GT with auto trans and wheel package this past weekend. Needless to say I'm loving the heck outa the car and all the features. I only wish it had the same 6R140 SelectShift xmsn, center display, and +/- switch as my 6.7L F250 PSD. On my PSD, the center display always shows which of the 6 gears I'm in. The +/- switch and xmsn are crisp and responsive. I'm still learning how to best utilize the 'D', 'S' and paddles in my GT. I'm not knocking my car or pickup. 435 hp 400 lb-ft vs 440 hp 860 lb-ft. They're all good.

Thanks for that info! I'll try that today. I live in the foothills, where it's downhill curves almost immediately after leaving my cul-de-sac. I've been paddle-shifting down to 3 and 2 while in 'D'. When the road goes uphill the xmsn shifts itself back into whatever gear it likes. With my PSD, I'm in 'M' (Manual) mode, and the xmsn stays in whatever gear I selected. The only time it shifts by itself is if I'm over-revving or lugging the motor. Now that's a sweet xmsn - sigh 😏

Ok, I used the 'S' mode with paddle shifters. I can definitely live with that. It would be nice if the +/- were on the shifter, like someone said about their Camry in another thread. The paddles are a little awkward when shifting in a turn. Thanks, LOOK. Ken

Installed the paddle extenders. Improves manual shifting in 'S' mode, but still wish the +\- switches were on the shifter instead of the steering wheel. Btw up-shifts are fine but down-shifts on a downhill incline are laggy and imprecise. I found that a little pressure on the accelerator pedal when down-shifting seems to tell the xmsn control module that I really want a lower gear - right now! Otherwise the xmsn takes a long time to increase engine rpm to match output rpm and drop to a lower gear. A little input on the throttle (like you would do on a MT) seems to result in less quirky down-shifts. My logic might be deeply flawed but it's fun to search for ways to make my DD automatic more fun to drive.

Thanks for the tip. I have a Base GT, so I don't have those switches under the Sync display. I'm getting a safety check on my 2-wheeler so I'll verify that when I get home. I've been doing 99% of my driving in S mode with the extended paddles - mostly to develop muscle memory and learn to overcome the quirkiness of the down-shifts. That's the only time I miss my '97 Cobra.

I could have sworn reading somewhere a while back that a GT without the "premium switches" could still activate the S+ mode (some other way).I'm sure it's stated in the manual somewhere if anyone can find the time to take a look.

And on another note. Ford will be offering the GT-350 with a ten-speed, dual clutch Automatic next year!

There's certainly a rumour about the GT350 getting a dual clutch next year, but it won't be a 10-speed. The 10-speed is a standard automatic and will go into the '18MY Mustangs (it may debut on the V8 GTs......then filter down to the Ecoboost). This is the same 10-speed autos in the '17 F150 3.5 Ecoboosts.....and '17 Camaro ZL1

Would like to see the 10-speed auto have same features as the 6R140 Selectshift auto. http://www.trucktrend.com/features/1...-transmission/
