Got my new "Flip Key" set up tonight

I got my "Flip Key" this week and have been busy, I got to Home Depot today and got it cut and came home and took me about 2 minutes to program the key. I carry JUST this one key alot and I didn't like the feel or the stab in the leg. This key is very sturdy and solid, works the same as the OEM and retains all the buttons.

Let me know what you guys think.

How was the programming ?

In the owners manual they explain how to program the new key, but what about the remote itself ?

The guy I got mine from on Ebay gave me the instuctions, it was a few key cycles and press a button. I had my key done in 2 minutes, if not less.

Not alot of details to give, pretty simple. I just picked the key up(from the link above) and he gives you the details to get it programed in 2 minutes. Pick one up, you won't be mad.

How much did Home Depot charge to cut it?

& when you "activate" that key does it deactivate the original keys??

The Home Depot I used did it for free, she said "oh it can't be done" and just say something like "oh, you guys did one for me last month". I was in and out in 5 minutes.

When you activate the "flip key" it clears all other OE keys, BUT the last step has a cycle that all you do is press the lock key on your OE keys to add them in.

I started with 2 OE keys, did the cycle and now I have 3 working keys, one flip and my original 2.

I seen this on ebay a good while back. It is a Volkswagen style flip key made to work with Fords. I should go ahead and get me one for my '10 because I like it better than the Mazda style flip key i used on my 08 model.

Had mine since Oct 2012 and its been going strong. The casing itself has been sturdy and the buttons haven't worn off like I thought they would. Range isn't as strong as OEM key but overall works very well and adds unique-ness to the car.

Hhmmm. I went to the Ebay page, entered my car into the 'vehicle compatibility' section, and got this:
Compatibility
Please choose your vehicle year, make and model for specific results.
To confirm that this part fits your vehicle, please choose a vehicle from your My Vehicles list OR enter your vehicle's Year, Make and Model.
This part is not compatible with 2012 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L .

Looks like it's a no-go for me, huh?

Here are the instructions for programming flip key

Found these on another forum and followed them successfully the first time. It took about a minute total for both parts. I edited slightly for clarity.

(PS, do NOT buy from eBay seller "cenn2010" - they are argumentative idiots who don't know what they are shipping and are not reliable in any way.)

PATs (Security) Key Programming
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**
  1. Insert an existing programmed key into the ignition.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON (RUN) and wait for the red security light to turn off. Do not leave the key in the ON position longer than 10 seconds, soon as the light turns off should be good enough. Turn key back to OFF.
  3. Remove the key and, between 3 and 10 seconds, insert a second programmed key and turn it to ON (RUN) and again wait for the security light to turn off. Do not leave the key in the ON position longer than 10 seconds, soon as the light turns off should be good enough. Remove the key.
  4. Insert the unprogrammed key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least 3 seconds and turn back to OFF.
  5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed. Attempt to start your car. If it doesn't start try again.
  6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

Remote Entry Key Programming
How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of six) available before beginning this procedure.
Note: Ensure the brake pedal is not depressed during this sequence.

To reprogram the remote entry transmitters:

  1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
  2. Put the unprogrammed key in the ignition.
  3. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position and 3 (ON). Your movement must be very fast otherwise you're going to be too slow and it'll never work. It says you have 10 seconds but it feels like even less. Note: the eighth turn must end in the 3 (ON) position. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been activated.
  4. Within 20 seconds press the unlock button on each of your remote entry transmitters. You should have three keys total (2 pre-programmed keys, 1 flip key). Press one button from each key to ensure all three will still have working remote functionality. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed, you will need to start the procedure over again. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
  5. Repeat Step 4 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.
  6. Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position after you have finished programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: After 20 seconds, you will automatically exit the programming mode. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been exited.
