city mileage

My driving is not equally divided between local and highway, so I can never get a true reading on "average". "Average" can be interpreted many ways.
If I was really obsessed with fuel consumption, I'd be re-setting the gauge every time I put the key in the ignition. I do like to see how I'm doing on the highway, but those numbers are skewed depending on the amount of miles I drive over 65 mph, over 75 mph, etc., the temperature outside, with or without cruise control, or if my top is up or down.
Average mileage figures are misleading. There are way too many variables that affect consumption.

I get 16 - 17 in the city, but most of my city driving are trips of 3 miles or less. I got about 19 with a 2012 Focus with the same type of trips, so I cannot really complain. The Mustang is A LOT more fun to drive.
