Jumping Ship on the BOSS

Just asking people thoughts on this. Was talking with fellow BOSS owner and he was noticing that BOSS owners were selling and going to GT 350 . I haven't really noticed this trend and have no plans to get rid of mine It took me 40 years to get one for crying out loud.... might even be my coffin Has anyone else notice this trend or plan on doing this? Just curious... if this is the case.. is it a mistake on that persons part. Know that the value has decreased on these cars but I positive it will rebound really in 69/70 who thought those cars would be where they are today. Just trying to get some conversation going.

I'm planning on keeping mine. No interest in adding anymore debt.

You should drive a GT350. Aside from the clutch being an utter joke, the sound is SO intoxicating. The interior is a lot more comfortable, while still not really being luxurious (unless you get the Electronics Package), and the capabilities are a lot higher. It's basically a Boss, but a lot better and without the sidestripes.

The 12/13 Boss, for lack of a better description, is the closest thing we have to an old school modern Mustang when compared with the GT350. I'm willing to bet that there won't be many give-ups....I think many of us are still divided between between the S197 and S550 camps. And from what I've been seeing of the Boss 302's that are for sale, they're holding value pretty well.

I'm also thinking that once the GT500 is a reality, along with a Mach 1 and possibly a new Bullitt, the inevitable exorbitant ADM's on those models might just keep the Boss 302's in the hands of their present owners.

Or I could be totally full of ****.

It's the best handing straight axle mustang ever made. I have a thing for the 1970 boss but I already have a 1970 coupe. I am jealous of the na GT 350 engine.

The large majority of the guys on TrackMustangsOnline (formerlyBossMustangsOnline) have upgraded to the GT350 just because it is an all around better track car then the Boss 302 is and you can even make the case that once development gets into the GT when used on track, it will make a better track car then the Boss 302 will. So that is a very good reason that a lot of the Boss owners are jumping ship from what I have seen.

Lord knows that the new Boss has been my dream car since I saw a blurb about it in Motor Trend back in 2008, but given the opportunity, I would jump right into an R if I wasn't so heavily invested in the Laguna Seca as is.

1st, there is a % of car owners that have to have the " latest / greatest " model.
2nd, you have to like the S550.
3rd, your BOSS no longer puts a smile on your face when you fire it up..

I bought my Boss because I wanted a Boss. Since I was a kid and built a 1970 parnelli jones Boss model, I wanted one. And in this color. I could have built my GT to hang with it, but it wouldnt be the same.

That said, if someone offered me a straight up trade for a GT350 I would be hard pressed to say no. In another year of modding the Boss, however, that will probably change.

If I were rich, I'd definitely have one of each in my stable. I'd probably have a regular Boss because I like the color choices better, then go with a GT350R just to say I have carbon fiber wheels lol

Agree with Laser I would own both if I had the $$$$..but I love my BOSS and will never depart from it. The sound of a 350 reminds me of Ferrari with that flat crank just too euro for me I lived in Italy for 2 years.I was offered to trade my BOSS for a GT350 RaceRed on the show floor at local dealer when I stopped in for oil (which they dont have and cant order) just dont care for the S550 Ill admit seen a few that turned my head and that was looks..not the sound. I aIso know there are folks who didnt like the S197 body either but that is what makes it great is there is a Pony for everyone and I am excited to see the new Mach 1 come out.
Thanks for the discussion on the topic its nice to see what people think..once again wifey dont get it.

And one thing no one seems to say. One is a Shelby, i.e. Not a straight up Ford product. And a Boss, which is basically the only in house mustang performance product, that's not a GT mustang.

I'm pretty sure that the GT350 is an official, bonafide in-house Ford Performance creation, as was the GT500, then known as Ford SVT.

There are conversions available from Shelby American, but it's not the same animal.

I don't know the answer to the original question as I can only speculate. But after seeing a bunch of clean, low mile Bosses go up for sale, they have me thinking about jumping ship on my Roush for one. Probably wouldnt be a bad move financially since the Boss will hold its value much better than my Roush, but I love mine to death.

There isnt a moment when I get in my BOSS and turn that key on that I dont smile . Granted the GT made me smile but not make my face hurt smile...or was that my reflection in the rear view..huh. IMO which isnt worth anything.. you wouldnt regret getting a BOSS.

The GT350 and 500 are Ford creations with SHELBY name on it. I do believe I read that BOSS was created because Shelby was winning with Ford cars and Ford wanted a win with their car. Someone correct me please is that is wrong. Cars come and go find one that makes you happy and drive it.

Yep that's why I call her my smile maker! I can be in a bad mood and take her out for a spin and I'm all better. She's therapy on wheels.
