The same can be said for the SN-95 and especially for the Challenger as it hasn't had a single makeover since it's re-introduction back in 2008 and we all know that 10 years from now, the same will also be said for the S550 as well..

As for Dodge owning the retro look with the Challenger is concerned ?

They did nothing more than re-copy the original Challenger design and then based it upon its larger LX sedan platform which is exactly why its such an over sized behemoth to begin with..

At least when Ford designed the current S-197, they were able to take it's retro styling cues from the 1st generation 65-70 Mustangs but at the same time were able to do so without actually trying to re-copy the original Mustang itself..

Although the current S-197 took much of its inspiration from the 1st generation 65-70 models.. It also has it's own unique contemporary and modern design along with having it's very own platform for the first time during the Mustang's entire 50 year history..

And FYI.. If it weren't for the success of the current S-197 ? Dodge wouldn't had brought back your retro styled Challenger from extinction to begin with and God only knows how the current Camaro would've turned out

The retro look of the Challenger was way better in my opinion, maybe not performance wise, but definitely better looking. Yeah they could the original design mostly, but that was kind of the point with the retro look. I'll agree without the retro influenced mustang It's possible they wouldn't have come out with the Challenger or that ugly Camaro. I never was a fan of the S197's body style.

As someone who bought a 2011 Mustang GT in 2010, and only has 10,000 miles on it so far, I'm certainly not buying the new one. I plan to keep mine forever, basically. And I don't have room in the garage for another.

I'm still trying to decide what I think of the new design. From some angles I like it a lot, but from others it doesn't look Mustang enough.

I'm also disappointed to hear how high prices are going. Seems like when I bought mine, the base GT was just under $30,000 (I bought the premium for $35,000). I still don't think prices can get much higher without the Mustang losing what it's all about - the notion of affordable V8 power. Ford had better be careful.

For the car you're getting those prices seem pretty fair. ^^

Don't get me wrong ! it's not that I don't like the look of the Challenger but as I said before.. In my opinion Mopar turned it into an over sized behemoth thanks to Daimler/Chrysler's LX sedan platform and has remained so ever since its re-introduction back in 08..

But never the less, they did re-copy the original Challenger styling where as Ford did not with the S-197.. As the current 05-14 Mustang is technically considered as retro-futuristic and is unique and original in it's own right..

As for not being a fan of the S-197 body style goes ? I can certainly respect your opinion as we all have our favorite Mustangs and have the right to voice our opinions in a constructive and positive manner..

Personally speaking.. I was never a fan of the 94-98 SN-95 body style but did however like the new edge re-fresh from 99-04..

On pricing, as a comparison, I remember when I was 16 and had just gotten my license in 1987, and began pining for a Mustang (I never actually got one until 2010).

Anyway, if I remember correctly, at the time (1987), one could buy a V8 Mustang, as long as it was an LX, not a GT, for around $12,000. That was right around the average price for a car then. So it was a great deal.

The cheapest V8 Mustang now is going to be $33,000. I think the average price of a car is around $30,000, so we're still in the right ballpark. It just seems like Mustang prices have gone up faster than prices of other cars over the last decade.

One big difference between now and the '80s is that everything was an option back then, and today you get a huge list of standard features. I bought a 1984 Z28 MSRP was $10,608. But it was barebones... These are some of the options I got which you would laugh at today:


  • tinted glass $110
  • sound insulation $72
  • roof drip moldings $29
  • intermittent wipers $50
  • rear window defogger $140
  • air conditioning $730
  • limited slip differential $95
  • cruise control $175
  • tilt wheel $110
  • auxiliary lighting $72
  • heavy duty battery $26


That's a lot of nickel and diming there! In comparison, I only got two options on my '05 GT, and the only one I really considered essential was the Interior Upgrade Package. The basic car today comes with everything you "need."

Hi Guys -So after 10 great years I traded my beloved 2005 GT Stang for a 2015 Base GT Race Red with PP and Recaros. I thought about trading up when the 5.0 came out in 2011 but resisted. After seeing and driving the 2015 I knew I had to get one. Spec'd the car out and did a quick search and found the exact car still in transit to a dealer an hour away from my house. Picked it up yesterday! Here are some final pics of my 2005 and new 2015 -

Thanks! Yes, everything came together nicely - Decent trade for the '05, exact 2015 Stang I was looking for in transit to a dealer close by and X-Plan pricing + Low interest financing incentive from Ford on all 2015 Stangs.


The '05 was an Awesome ride, the '15 is a refined Beast!

If I had an 05 that was in excellent condition. I'd keep it. You never know what the future will hold. keep it till you're truly ready to part with your current pony for a newer one.


I plan on keeping mine for at least 10 years. Or longer, if it doesn't give me too many problems.

I had a 08 and when the 2011 came out with the new 5.0 had to have it. Then when I saw the upgrades to the engine. More forged internals and better heads and intake. It didn't take long. Mine came in 2 weeks ago. What a huge difference. Driving it is amazing handling compared to the 2011.
