Not necessarily. This could be the 2014.5. I know that if they offered a Mach 1 with the Trinity engine and a Drag Pack in the S197, I would find it very hard to wait for the S550.

I don't agree as I think it work well on this body style and if you recall, the original Bullitt was a 68 full fastback and so is the new body style. I also didn't think it worked very well on the SN-95 as it was not a fastback model at all..

So IMHO it would work just as well if not even better on the new body style than it did on the S-197 !

Pretty sure I would have to be smoking it to live in California.
Seriously, with the huge delay in production, why not come out with some special editions that would bridge the gap?

Pretty much what they did with the 03-04 Mach 1's. They already did a Bullitt in 08-09, but anything else and it would crimp on the new bodystyle special editions that are forthcoming. It's hard to say what would be a good choice from a marketing standpoint.

I totally disagree, and although the S550 has a lower roofline than the S-197.. its also wider and looks somewhat stubby and perhaps even a bit more chubby as the S550 appears to have even more of a higher waisted beltline when compared to the S-197..

I also don't understand how you think the S-197 looks old or outdated when compared to the S550, and when looking at your side by side comparison pics that you posted.. You can clearly see from the side profile of both cars that very little has changed in the basic overall shape with the exception there's no longer separate A and B pillars and also having more of a fastback profile, however other than that, the 1/4" rear windows still remains in the B-Pillar section and their overall shape hasn't really changed all that much either..

There is no question or denying the fact the new S550 is indeed far more refined of a car and technically more advanced, modern over the S-197 however appearance wise, Ford did not completely abandon the Mustang's retro styling theme either..

So IMHO, I really don't feel the S-197 looks old or outdated when compared to the all new S550 at all !

I'm not just trying to start a ruckus, but I disagree. The S550 makes the S197 seem out of date easily. Really in about every way except the powerplant. That doesn't mean the S197's look bad, just out of date. Dare I say...old.

So in your opinion ! how does the S-197 look outdated when compared to the S550 ?

Now again, I'm just referring from the side profile of both cars.. I was not comparing the differences between the changes in the front and rear sections but only the basic overall shape ie.. the roofline and long hood, short rear deck ect..

This is certainly my opinion. I think the 2015 looks like a modern progression to me. As a whole overall. I mean you can't just lokk at one or two areas. Step back and look at them side by side (or top/bottom).

^Overall, it just looks newer to me.
  • sleeker, faster looking
  • smoother but curvey
  • tighter gaps, well engineered

I agree that it looks more modern. That in no way takes away from the current model.

I think it's normal for some to feel a little angst towards the newer model when it's out. Same thing happened when the S197's came out. There were people that hated the current sn95/new edge Mustang at that time. I don't think it takes away from the current Mustang either.

Yes ! I totally agree as I've mentioned in other threads that IMO the 2015 is indeed an evolution of the current S-197 as in modern progression..

I also mentioned in my previous post about the 2015 having a lower roofline along with having more of a fastback profile and being far more refined, modern and advanced in technology over the S-197..

What I was trying to point out is when comparing just the side profiles between both cars and if you take away all the sharp lines, creases, new front/rear sections and lower stance, the basic overall body shape itself hasn't really changed at all..

So is the 2015 Mustang different, more modern and completely far more refined over the S-197 ? Yes indeed, it is but at the same time I also stated that Ford did not abandon it's retro styling theme altogether either..

So if the S-197 appears to look outdated and old when compared to the new S550 as in old school ? That only goes to show just how unique the S-197 truly is.. As it was designed to be a modern interpretation of the 1st generation 65-70 models and as far as I'm concerned the current S-197 is timeless IMHO
