'15 Manual Transmission

Are there any good (i.e. strong) rumors of what transmission will be put behind the 5.0 in the 2015 cars?
I'm still not a fan of the MT82 and I'm hoping SOMETHING else goes in. regardless, I'm stoked to see the new one and hope its a solid 200-250lbs lighter for a base GT.

I haven't read any suggestion that Ford will be going to a different manual transmission. It sound like the 6-speed automatic will be replaced by an 8-10 speed but that's a few years further down the line.

Agreed. An improved shifter would probably eliminate most complaints.

My guess is that the V6/V8 engines//trannies will be carryovers more or less, augmented by the new eCoboost 2.3. I would expect any more substantial updates to the V6/V8 drive trains to be, as per usual Mustang practice, to lag a year.

Other rumors: GT 500 will be either supplemented or supplanted by a GT350 sporting some uber Coyote motor that may be a bit larger, have a flat-plane crank and be very highly tuned.

Also, in a year or two, the current slush box tranny will be updated with an eight-cogger; wriggle-stick box, no changes heard of.

Hopefully they return to an trans mounted shifter and leave the remote shifter with the S-197.

Last i heard Chinese labor was higher than Ford was willing to pay. I think Ford is going to have their manual transmissions made in a small country just outside of Atlantis. I read this on the internet, so it must be true.....................

I have no problem with the tranny in my 2011 5.0. That said, I know that some percentage has had issues. While I got the 2005 & 2011 (1st year of change over), I think I will be waiting a year to see what Special Editions are coming before I make a choice on the most excellent (hoping) 2015/2016 has to offer. If they come out with the near 600 hp flat plane crank uber-high rmp 5.0 I would love to see something like a 8 speed paddle.

I have for most of my life preferred rowing my own, but my recent stint in the Ferrri 430 and Porsche 911 Turbo both with paddles has opened my eyes to the possiblilties of modern go fast tech.

As I frequently say, it's an exciting time to be a fan of high performance American Muscle.

I would hope this to be true. that would make a huge improvement, along w/ diff shifter.

with the drive train layout being different, there has to be something adjusted. in other words, with IRS I wouldn't think they'd just use a standard driveshaft since the diff doesn't move i.e. U-joint/CV joint issues? dunno. but there will be something changing, if nothing else than just the mounts. how was that handled in the IRS Cobras?

but honestly, the MT82 is no golden child. it you've driven other performance vehicles it is substandard in my opinion, even w/ shifter & bushing upgrades. I'm a T56 junkie too and for this price point & V8 architecture I consider that to be the standard. Perhaps a case mounted (internal rail?) shifter MT82 version would fix all this w/ lower costs than a whole new trans. (new rear case, new shifter, new shift rails etc but same gears, shafts, front case, blah blah blah)

but then if they do come out w/ the GT350 and it has something diff, like the T56-type in the GT500 then I'd probably just have to go that route.....

If Ford would update the shifter some I think most complaints about the MT82 Wiuld go away. Most of the problems aren't the transmission. The clutch return spring caused the pedal to stick, the notchy ness and inability to go into gear I believe is all in the shifter mechanism. Once I put in the MGW it has been fine. But I figure the trans in the future would goto the TR6070 like the Vette and then the 8 spd auto

Cool

Getrag has a really good reputation for building really good manual transmissions. I suspect the shifter may not be perfect. Owners have been replacing factory shifters in all makes of cars for as long as Hurst has been making shifters. Manufactures have been making shifters more to please the little ol grannies who want a soft smooth shift. Manufacturers know real enthusiasts are going to replace the factory shifter no matter what.

read the MMFF article... they revised the linkage and setup for a shorter throw and more precise shifting

most likely to fix the cause of the 11-14 complaints

I read the MMFF article since. Probably has the best amt of info than any other source at the moment. Yeah, I hope they fixed the MT82 issues (who wouldn't?).

Yeah as long as they fixed that rear mount and shifter. The MT82 will be good to go
