MMD Blackout Grile

So I ordered the 3M piece to cover the top of my bumper from AM. That went pretty well. At least the whole bumper is covered now. I also added the MMD grille blackout. I really love the look but the fitment could be a tiny bit better. On the driver's side the piece fits perfectly. On the passenger side as you can see in the pic that the gap is a bit much. Too bad because it's a really nice look at least to me.

Looks great! I love what you've done so far. I'm sorry to hear the fitment isn't 100% perfect. It still looks great! If you head it up a bit you could probably stretch it down a tiny bit more.

I'll definitely get this feedback over to the guys at MMD! If you're unhappy with it and would like a replacement we can definitely look into this for you. Just give our CS team a call directly! Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266. I can also have one of them call you.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I practically live on the AM site. I'd take a replacement only if I knew it was better. I don't think heating will do anything since it's pretty thick plastic but I could be wrong.

You're welcome! Glad to hear you enjoy the site. I can definitely get with our Vinyl team and see if this was a known issue or if this set was just cut a tiny bit short. We can always test this again on a project car and make sure it's perfect!

Shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll our CS team reach out directly after we check with Vinyl!

Is it really necessary to have two people to install the MMD Blackout Grill Surround? Any tips for install by just one person?

There's absolutely no reason to have two people install it. The only advice that I have is to put it on by placing the bottom left and right into place first and then pushing the rest into position. Take a good look at before you give it that final pressure to make sure the tape is set.

If that's unclear let me know and I'll try to make more understandable.

Thanks. Sounds easy enough.

So after having the blackout on now for a while the more I like it. The only bummer is the fit on the passenger side. The gap is just too big.

I'm confused, isn't the piece plastic, not a vinyl decal??? How could you possibly heat up a piece of plastic and stretch it without ruining it?? Why talk to the "vinyl" team??? I only ask because I have been thinking about ordering this piece for some time now but will NOT if there is an uneven gap on one side. Is it possible the OP has it shifted to one side (is it possible to mount it with an equal "smaller" gap on each side)????

Hi, it's not vinyl. It's a hard plastic. I don't see how I could have shifted but I guess anything is possible. I'd give it another shot to see but I'm not sure how to deal with the 3M tape. It's on there good.

Here's a pic of the gap. To me, it's too much.

So what's the reason behind the top section looking like unpainted plastic instead of the body color?

The look? To be different? I like it? I know it's not everybody's cup of tea but I dig it. The more I see it the more I like it.

That gap would bother me too.

I think I'll try and remove it at some point to reposition it and see I can get it any better. I'm just not sure how to go about it since that 3M tape is tough stuff.

Um usually when someone starts off with no offense the next thing said is offensive. LOL!

It's all cool. It's my car and I can modify it how I like. There's lots of things I've seen done to all kinds of cars that I find less than attractive. To each his/her own.

Agreed. It was tongue in cheek. That also why I added the obligatory IMHO. I'm hilarious

Hood Stripe

My first mod when the cold breaks. I think it ties it together to quote the dude.

I was planning on painting the vents but I think it'll be too much after the stripe.
