Why are the GT500 Axle Backs so expensive now
All of a sudden the GT500 mufflers are $500 instead of $325 or $350. Also showing out of stock everywhere. What gives? Wanted to put these on my Boss.

as to the topic...
it's possible ford has stopped production of that exhaust, as with many other parts for s197, in favor of s550 parts. this might drive up the cost.

OMG. Me too. I believe they offer the best sound for the money. Sounds like that may not be the case any longer. Sucks.
Whoever posted about the S197 going end of life is probably spot on. I'll bet the GT350 mufflers become the bargain now. However they may not be tuned very well for the standard Coyote as they will fire every 90 degrees as opposed to the Voodoo, with the flat plane crank shaft, that is designed to fire every 180 degrees. That will make this car sounds more like a Ferrari instead of an American V-8. What a shame.

Same sale for me... Dang! Had these been $500 I would have definitely went with the Roush ones. Glad I bought when I did, $280 shipped was a steal for how they sound.

I paid $200 for a used set off of a 2012 Shelby, got the midpipes with no resonators, too. I think my car came alive that day, sounds the way it should from the factory in my opinion.

Woah that's not good if you don't already have them on. Is this for the quad or dual tips?
I'm surprised they are as cheap as they were before. I think I paid like $260 for mine from American Muscle about 3 or 4 years ago. I would have paid a little more for mine but not $500.00. Hopefully they come back in stock soon and the price will come back down.

My GT500's will be coming off in about a month for a pair of Borla's or Corsa's so they will be looking for a home. I bought them and had the dealer put them on before I picked her up.

Got mine February 19th from LMR for $265 on sale. I had checked AM at that time - they were out of stock but were listing them at $499 which I thought was odd. A day or two after I ordered mine, LMR had jumped to $499 also.
Here's what I think has happened.
In the 2014 FRPP catalog they list the muffler with a suggested retail price of $399.99 so it would make sense that you could buy them for less than that.
FRPP doesn't show a 2015 catalog on their site so I can't tell if they officially raised their price but if you check out the vendors who are selling them for $499 they are showing a "Market Price" of $559 - see AM or LMR.
Levittown Ford

confirm this listing an MSRP for the same amount. So it looks like Ford raised the price.
The only place that I could find selling them at the "old" price is Steeda.

So if you were thinking of buying this exhaust, you should jump on the Steeda deal now.

Hm. Unlike my other post, which was a 'market adjustment' idea that I said "nahh.." and then wished for the self delete... Which, by the way, the market adjustment is easily plausible, as in maybe y'all are wanting more than they can make, so why not make more money on them, right?
No, I have a sneaking suspicion that Ford is about to keep that price up there for about 6 months, then drop the hammer on the price to "you'd be stupid not to" pricing, then a couple of months later, stop sellin' these mufflers, discontinuing the product.
It's an educated guess, for I've seen it happen before. They did this to 85.5-86 SVO headlamp assemblies, and then again for '93-96 Mark VIII headlamp assemblies.
This will be interesting to see if this is the case.
Eh. Maybe it is 'dealer markup' for popularity though.
