So I just got back from the insurance estimate. The guy thinks they just need to repair the bumper and other cosmetic stuff. The thing that worries him was that the one muffler was pushed back. So at the very least I would need a new muffler. He's hoping that's it and there's no damage further back. I also dropped it off at the collision place so they should know exactly what's needed when they tear it apart later.

You'd be surprised...the front end of cars these days are really meant to crumple quite a bit. My mom rear ended someone at about 10mph or less and the hood on her corolla went bent all the way up in the middle and the bumper was destroyed. The other car had hardly any damage.

Mini-update: Got a notification from the body shop, it looks like it was lust the bumper and muffed that needed to be replaced. So if nothing goes wrong I should have the car back Thursday ( fingers crossed)!

That's good news! Good for your Mustang and bad for the Audi. USA 1, Germany 0. If you say the woman driver was an Asian lady, then it would go with the stereotype.

its crazy to think what little it takes to crumple a car these days. My moms brand new jeep go rear ended the other day which did little damage to her car but crumpled the other persons.

So it looks like I'm not getting my car back until tomorrow. Not a big deal since its gonna rain heavy this afternoon and I want to make sure the paint was done right.

glad you were not hurt and that the car has minor damage!
Cars nowadays are built to crumple like a soda can up until a point. I think I remember reading its a way to absorb the impact and force it around the passenger compartment and not through it. I heard the engine is also on tracks that guide it towards the ground in an accident and not back into the driver.
Its neat what 70+ years of constant enginering can produce.
