Has anybody else had this problem? As I was backing the car out of the garage I heard a pop noise and my driver side strut mount snapped. The struts and shocks were installed 15 months ago and have about 4000 miles on them. My set-up is the Steeda Pro-Action shocks and struts with the Steeda sport springs, and the Steeda HD upper strut mounts. Thank goodness I wasn't driving down the road!

Hello,

I apologize for the issues you are experiencing with your strut mounts.

This is an unordinary situation.

Please send me your order number and contact info to tim@steeda.com and we'll get this taken care of under our warranty program.

Dang! Good thing it happened at low speed. I have those same mounts and sport springs, looking at the same pro-action struts and shocks... nothing installed yet.... hopefully it's an isolated incident!

How does it look on the top side, everything OK?

Hello Tom,

I spoke to manufacturing & engineering and this is a very rare occurrence.

It is very difficult for us to identify what may have taken place or how/why it happened ... but none the less ... we will take care of it.

We stand behind our products 100%.

Best Regards,

TJ

As far as I can see no other damaged occurred. However, I haven't removed the old strut yet. I've never had any problems with any of the Steeda products I've bought over the years. This is my fourth Mustang and I have used their products a lot.

TJ,

Thanks for your concern, I'm trying to get a hold of Stage 3 Motorsports to get a replacement

Update: I spoke with Stage 3 Motorsports last night and their customer service told me I would need to go through Steeda to get a replacement. I called Steeda this morning to get a replacement and they told me I would need to call Stage 3 Motorsports. So far nobody wants to take responsibility for a lifetime warranty strut. It's frustrating because that's my daily driver and it's sitting broke in the driveway with no way to move it!

If that happened at speed driving down the road, its not like your car would have fallen on its face. I've never seen one of those break. Has to be a rare occurrence for sure.

Did the strut mount break or did the strut cylinder break at the thread termination? Hard for me to see on the small phone screen!

The nut that holds the strut in place (under the hood) is still tight with no play...looks like it broke at the top of the strut before the threads. I'll take more photos of it once I get it removed.

Ok so the strut itself broke? I have the HD mounts and sport springs but with Bilstein struts.

I think that's what he's saying... I couldn't for the life of me figure out how one of those HD mounts could have broken.

Be interesting to know the cause of failure once Steeda has had a chance to look at it...if they do.

Thanks to Stage 3 Motorsports and Matt at Steeda for sending me replacement parts. It's good to see a company stand behind their products!

will be interesting to hear what caused that... if they find the strut rod is bowed, may have been cracked by a pothole or something, but if the rod is straight and it just snapped??? weird failure for sure.

I had a neighbor who was going down the street one day, I was in the garage heard a hellacious racket out front- I was afraid she ran over a bike or something- here she had a frozen strut that jarred the car hard enough to break the subframe loose on the car, dropped the subframe toed the tires way out, and busted off a 'shock asorber' that ran from the engine to the core support(think it was a old chevy citation or some similar POS)... just mentioned as perhaps strut seized up and first good bump got it- but even that seems a unlikely way to fail.

assume the car has never been hit on that side, and that noone ever took a torch to it

Anyways, kudos to Steeda for good warranty service
I didnt realize they had HD strut mounts- if mine ever go, I'll look at theirs, know Fords OE units have occasionally been a issue, even if mine have been OK so far...

I have steeda shocks & struts, as well as other steeda suspension parts. I am very happy with their products. Any company should warranty that type of failure. Glad your getting a replacement.

As promised…here's a closer look at the damage to the strut. So far there's no damage that I can see to the HD strut mounts. Steeda shipped out new struts and HD strut mounts, should be here by Thursday.
