JLT separator broke....results:
I installed a JLt oil separator in late 2011 on my 12' GT with about 1,000 miles. At the time, I couldn't determine any difference. In the mean time, I've maintained the catch can as recommended. I changed the oil at 30k and went to twist off the catch can for the purpose to empty it. In a hurry, I twisted off the can without removing the pcv connections (not recommended). I broke the male threads doing this. No fault to JLT, just my own. In the mean time, I had to install the original pcv unit until my new jlt arrives. What a difference! The car smokes on cold start ups and idle is rough and not remotely close to the smoothness of idle with the catch can installed. Get your catch cans and empty them properly. My new one should be here in a day or 2.

Idle sounds like a vacuum leak, did you make sure you hooked everything back up properly?
These engines are not direct injected, they are port injected. Catch Cans benefit direct injected engines a lot more than port injected and should not have an impact on idle or excessive amounts of smoke coming from the tailpipe. Fuel washes over the valves in these engines which helps prevent carbon build-up unless you are using a cheap brand of fuel with no detergent additives.

Slap on a 2013 f150 ecoboost pcv valve, costs 7$ and cuts down on oil consumption just as much as a catch can. Pull your stock pcv off. You can blow straight through it. Now try and blow through the ecoboost valve. You can't blow through it.
Its as simple as unscrewing your stock valve and screwing in the new one.

I just verified that PCV valve is also used on the 3.7 Mustang. If the 5.0 does not pull enough vacuum to open the valve .. then that is not a good thing either.

I was told by Shaun at AED to go this route. If he tells me this is what he recommends I do it.
He also said he had a leguna seca in the shop for excessive blow by and this fixed the issue.
