Getting ready to pull the trigger for a supercharger install

I am Getting ready to pull the trigger for installing a 2.7 Roush Phase 3 supercharger at the Ford dealership, but they refuse to install my methanol injection with the supercharger.... Any thoughts and opinions ?

What are you looking for thoughts or opinions on?

On the dealer that won't install meth? I don't blame them. I a bit surprised that they would even do the supercharger.

On if you need meth or not? Depends on your build and your end goals really. Plenty people make boatloads of power without meth, but methanol does have its advantages.

Did you mean a 2.3? I bet it has to do with the warranty that comes along with the roush supercharger package. If you're doing the meth kit for the extra hp, skip the roush tune and get a tune from vmp or another tuner on here and you'll pick up 50 or more ponies.

I agree, unless you're doing it for the warranty, get it installed at a reputable performance shop and get good tune.

According to the dealership there is a new 2.7 version. I thought 2.3 also, but he showed me a catalog that had a new 2.7 Roush blower. Regardless, I changed my mind on the type of blower. I am going with a 2.9 Whipple Phase 3 and the dealership will not do the install, because now they dont warrenty the Wipple !!!!! Their trying to push the TVS 2300 on me. So I got Mustang Magic to do everything !!!! Here's the link on my Wipple blower... http://www.lethalperformance.com/whi...ody-black.html

Congrats OP! Those new whipples are nice. I would have gotten the blue one for me obviously

As for shop doing install, I would recommend doing it yourself, but it's probably too late in your case. But yeah, 10k for everything, dang that's steep. I put in probably 1/2 that tops on my setup, but granted I don't have "whipple power"

Well...probably not on a stock short block (from what I understand). Isn't 600rwhp generally considered to be the max for the Coyote's stock bottom end?

Are you also replacing the oil pump gears?

Nevertheless, having that kind of head room in the blower sounds like a great thing if it means that you can build the motor down the road and have the option to put out 150 more hp on the same hardware.

Please keep us posted!!

The Stage 1 version of the new 2.9 Whipple is 700 hp with 8.5 lbs of boost, which is the most boost I personally would do with a stock short block. A couple of other pluses with the new Whipple you may not be aware of. No more grinding/modifying the front timing cover to install, so that should save a few bucks on the install and keep your engine compartment cleaner! Also the factory Boss 302 strut tower brace clears, so you no longer have to lose the benefits of the strut tower brace when installing a supercharger.

Yes right now 600 rwhp is all I am looking for with this stock engine and building the motor is exactly what I plan to do in the future. That"s why I chose the 2.9 Whipple. Ya hit it on the nose !!!!

Yes, I did know about the easy install with the Whipple, but I didn't know about the Boss 302 strut tower brace clearing !!! Right now I have the GT strut tower brace. Is there anything I can do to my current strut tower brace to make it clear the supercharger ?

Nothing you could do that would make sense for the effort and $$ spent. Just get the Boss 302 brace or possibly an aftermarket one designed for the Boss 302. Here is a picture of the Boss brace with the new Whipple. Picture courtesy of Whipple Superchargers.

^ nice... but I hope that sloppy tubing/wiring above the Driver side strut brace was for photo purposes only. I still can't believe Whipple would let a pic like that out.

I believe Steeda makes a STB that clears a whipple. Check their site, or better yet call them to discuss.
