The 6R transmission has manual shift capability, and its wide 6.04:1 gear ratio and two overdrive gears deliver improved performance and fuel economy over the 4-speed it replaces.
Find a way to mate it to the Mustang GT!

I'd still go for the 5 (or 6) speed manual, but the mustang could use a 6sp auto to keep up with the c6 vette, which already offers one. plus, the v6 fusion already has a 6sp auto standard!

I would like to see the 6 spd auto with manual shift capabillity, however, PLEASE Ford, don't stop offering a the 6 spd manual!!! IMHO the Mustang must always have a true manual transmission available

We already discussed the 6R on the GT-500 section a long time ago.
Word from an insider was that the 6R does not physically fit in the Mustang.
That info. pretty much ended the 6R discussion over in the GT-500 section.

Why does the Mustang have to keep up with a car whose MSRP is double it's own? They aren't even in the same class of vehicle. Besides, all I have heard is great things about the SN197's 5-sp auto.

It would be nice to have an auto stick. My Dad's G35 has one, and I love it.

Agreed. It doesnt even really need to be a 6-speed, I think that a 5 speed would suit it

I suppose an auto stick on the OPTION sheet would be OK, but 3 pedals on the floor of the Mustang needs to remain! I have to say no to an AWD version of the Mustang though...A guy on another forum thought that would be a good idea on a Mustang, I have to say to that!!

Autosticks don't work well from my experience. Ford hopefully is developing a DSG transmision because thats the future of auto transmissions.

I see nothing wrong with a AWD version for those of us that live in the North. Then again this year the temps haven't allowed for a lot of snow. Not everyone can park their Stang in the garage all winter.

What about the select shift in the Lincoln LS?? Its a version of the 5R55s anyways!

That would be SWEET....

I drove an Audi with that kind of set up (rental) while my hood was being done and it was WAY fun to drive!

Hasn't Fords new 6sp been taking a lot of flak for searching for gears too much?

Having had both a regular V8 LS and LS V8 Sport with SST I actually found the regular trannie, which does let you select any of gear 1, 2, 3, or 4 to be more useful than the SST. Although either the regular LS shifter or the SST would be a lot more usefull than the Mustang's auto shift selector. But the SST is no substitute for a manual.

But I wonder if the Mustang does not get SST because Ford is afraid that the extra torque from the 4.6 would blow the trannie if gear selection is given to the driver.

The Asian unit in the Fusion was guilty of doing this...Ford has couple different slushboxes that are 6speeds and a new unit that was a GM/Ford co-venture makes its debut in the Edge/MKX/MKZ later in the year with the new 3.5L V6

the 6R is a truck/SUV transmission that is based on the 6 Speed ZF that was in the Navagator

I would love the Auto shift feature. I've had it before, the Mustang is perfect for it. Manually shift when the mood strikes and Auto for cruising. LOL
