Electric Gauges and Bluetooth interefence

I have a BAFX OBDII bluetooth dongle and connect with it with an old android phone and DashCommand. I have a 12-24" extension cable which allows me to move the dongle out of the way of my left leg during clutching.

When plugged in directly, very infrequently, all of the guages, radio, sync and nav system act like they are rebooting and the track apps screen resets itself too. It is random behavior, althouth it did it 3 times within 5 red lights in stop in go traffic this weekend.

What I have noticed is that this happens when plugged in without the extension cable and with the extension cable when the dongle is placed under the steering wheel. When I extend the cable to the door handle and let it ride there, it's never exhibited this behavior.

Thanks,
