I'm going to be 60, 5'6" around 165# (this is about 15# overweight), and use the clutch pedal extender. My knees have hurt in the past and this is the stiffest clutch pedal I've ever had. I've found that when I do seated leg raises at the gym it strengthens the tendons and muscles around my knees and it helps a lot.
Haha I fluctuate from 165-185...this is the stiffest clutch you ever had?? You should try a Fox body or SN95 lol!

Those old fox manuals if you could drive them I think you can handle any manual.

OK. I thought I read a build thread somewhere in which the OP of that thread added a dedicated clutch fluid reservoir to cure this problem. But I can't find the thread and I wasn't 100% sure that was true so I was hesitant to recommend it. Also not sure about the cost.

I considered trading my S2000 for a Terminator. After the test drive I couldn't believe how ridiculously stiff the clutch was.

I don't notice the clutch so much on the 2014 though. Its about the same effort as most of the other manuals I've owned. But I do notice that the ergonomics are kind of off. When I adjust my seat so I can clutch correctly, I find the steering wheel is just a little too far away.

Just curious, when did the Mustang go to a hydraulic clutch? Was it 2005?

One minor difficulty is its a royal #*!@% to put the pedal cover back on.
The CJPonyParts page has a video guide for installing the ABS version. They use dish soap as a lubricant to get the extension onto the pedal cover, and then stretch the extension over the pedal itself before adding the bolts. I assume this would work with the metal extension as well.

Yeah, first time I drove my car I was surprised how light the clutch was. It felt like a Honda to me...albeit a very fast Honda haha. Even the intake noise from the sound tube reminded me of a Honda at full tilt. With the sound tube removed, and my (almost full, LTs going on this week) exhaust, no one will be mistaking it for a Honda anymore lol

Well, I had an '85 GT (the carburated one) and an '01 Cobra. I don't remember how much stiffer they were. I do miss them

I don't know about the Mustang but my 1991 F150 has an hydraulic clutch

Gabe did, and I'm thinking about doing it if I continue to autoX or track my car with any regularity.

They were much stiffer than the current S197. Even the 05-09 was stiffer. I drove a 2009 back to back with a 2010, and even though the drivetrain was the same, they did change the clutch in the 2010. It was much lighter. Then when I drove my 2014 for the first time, I slammed the pedal to the floor with my muscle memory from my 2003 GT that I had sold a couple months prior!

I've got major inflammatory arthritis so, I went auto after wrecking my 2012 BBP. Couldn't be happier. Great trans, 3 shifting modes, 9 times out of ten it does it's work better than the manual ever did.

If you're committed, extending the pedal is a good idea. I didn't find a lot of knee action in the '12's clutch but, anything you can do to add leverage will help.

You tried kinesiology tape (sports tape) for your knee?

I'm 5'9"-ish. My seat is far enough back that I can still depress the clutch pedal fully if I extend out my toes, while keeping myself firmly in the seat.

Whenever I need to shift, I can't heel-toe it. Maybe I'm just weak, or am positioning my foot wrong, but I don't have the strength to depress the pedal that way. What I have to do is push the pedal down with my whole leg, toes point out, and then I can put my heel down, and angle my foot to release the pedal. It means that whenever I need to shift, I'm pushing against the clutch with my whole leg, and I think that is what's causing my knee pain.

I assume that I'm working the clutch wrong, but I've also seen complaints on these forums about the stiffness of the clutch, and suggestions to remove springs or swap out parts to make it have "more linear travel."

What do you think? Am I seated wrong or shifting improperly, or do I need to adjust the resistance of the pedal?
