Never had a problem with the battery bag on the GT500. I traded it in after 7 years and just over 98k on the clock and it had been through four seasons all those years and still looked great.

I don't know if it had anything to do with it but I religiously washed the engine bay going no more that two car washes before I would soap down and rinse the engine bay (hood included, my hood blanket was in great shape too).

Matter of fact the only issues I had with anything under the hood was trying to keep stickers in place. Eventually I would wash them away.

chhiii, I just ordered one for my 2006 GT from Hennessy Ford (seller hennessyford2015) off Ebay for $26.99 (Free Shipping) if you can't find one cheaper. These guys have like a 3 day delivery. Mine fell apart when I changed the battery on Monday.

I have the same issue in my 2013 GT. only 22K miles, always garaged, never driven in the rain.

Is I have had problems with my battery dying on me a few times, and Ford nothing wanting to do about it, I think I might have to replace the battery also (guessing the battery is somehow contributing to the complete disintegration of the bag).
I don't want the battery from Ford.
What would be a good leak proof battery that fits and has enough cranking power?

At just 21,708K.. My 06 GT is ready for a new battery blanket.. Mice probably got to it while sitting in the garage lol.

As far as a new battery, the ones that Ford sells at the Parts counter is actually a really good battery, with a great warranty.

The batteries that come with the cars seem to be pretty much crap.

Different supplier maybe? Don't know, but I know the batteries we sold when I was a writer were great.

Mine only has 36k miles on when purchased, car looks phenomenal so don't think it was ever in the snow, think it was garaged most winters. The bag is completely deteriorated on one side. Other than that everything else looks brand new.

Just curious...

People with intact battery covers - do you have a strut tower brace?

My hypothesis is that the STB affects the under hood aerodynamics and the turbulence wrecks the cover.

Interesting theory. I have a strut tower brace, and my battery cover is completely shot after owning the car since march 2013 (new), and driving it only 22k miles, in only good weather.

I've had a strut tower brace since the summer of 2010 on my 2011 v6, (26,000 miles) my battery bag is still like new

Darn. Is it the OEM brace or aftermarket?

No. Stack Racing, it uses all 4 of the strut bolt nuts instead of 2 that are used on the OEM braces

A. That is a cool STB.
B. The tubular design of the SR is pretty different from the flat design of the OEM.

While I'm not an aerodynamics expert, I would expect the aerodynamic profile for two tubes to be very different from a flat plane. So I'm not convinced this invalidates the hypothesis.

Another thought is the hood vents in the 13-14. I would imagine they would affect under hood aerodynamics as well.

The topic starter has a 2010 V6, which doesn't have the hood vents. My car is a 2013 GT, which does have hood vents. Both cars have similar mileage of around 24K, and both have battery bag deteriorated.
Hood vent is probably not causing it either.
It's probably just Ford quality.....

And today I wanted to go out for dinner, and the car only made clicking noises when I tried to start the car. radio, lights etc seemed to work normal. Took my crappy 2015 Edge V6 AWD Titanium full options to dinner (anyone interested in this POS?? It is by far the worst car I have ever owned, and Ford doesn't want to do anything about it).
Back from dinner, disconnected the battery and hooked up my jump starter, and the mustang just started fine.
I now really need to get a new battery. But given the "relationship" between Ford co and I, I will have to find one elsewhere.

Sorry for the rant.... Did the others who have the battery bag deterioration, also have problems with the battery itself ?

I still think it is from fumes leaking from some of the batteries. My bag is still like new on my 2011 that I have had since May 2010 with 26,000 miles. I'm still on the original factory battery

I replaced the battery today. And I noticed that the original battery bag was installed upside down and the front was facing the rear. The bags are notches in them. The larger notch needs to be at the bottom in de rear.

Not sure if mounting them incorrectly could cause the deterioration, but I did find it interesting that it was installed incorrectly in the factory.
