If you learned that the '14.5 was an anniversary car would you buy a '14? I think most people might hold out, so I don't think Ford would be wise to spill the beans yet if there is, indeed, some sort of cool '14.5 on the horizon.

Still hoping Ford shows the Appearance Package at LA............no sign of it yet from the usual suspects though (Autoblog/Jalopnik/LLN)

Does anyone have anything from Ford that advertised the Mustang that was shown on Apr 17, 1964 as a 64 1/2 Mustang?
It's my understanding that it was actually a 65 that was introduced earlier than usual.

If it was the 2014 body, no I wouldnt hold out, but if it is the next gen body, I could picture some people holding out.

I'm starting to think (especially considering Andrea's wording) that the 50th anniversary car is just going to be an appearance package 14'. Don't you think we'd be starting to hear about shutdowns for retooling if they were going to make the anniversary with the next gen? If it was a spring car they would be releasing it at the LA show or whatever one comes next, but we haven't even seen a full camoed test car, just mules.

Considering how my tastes don't favor appearance packs, Ill probably be ordering a regular 14' ...at this point anyway.

Whether or not the first Mustangs are called '64s, '65s, or 64 1/2...the early cars have several features that differ from the cars considered by the purists to be "true" 1965 models.

Here is a link that has a lot of good info that clarifies things quite a bit.

and here are the noted differences between the early and later cars:

"- The first spot to look is at the corners of the cars hood at the front. The 1964 and a half Mustang had a beveled edge that set into a groove as opposed to the more finished looking "pinched" or "crimped" method use on the 1965 Mustang.

- Passenger seats on the '64 were fixed, or in other words not meant to adjust or slide backwards and forward. The 1965 model had adjustable passenger seats.

- The door locks are color keyed to the interior color of the car on the 1964 and while in the 1965 model they were chromed.

- The gas tank cap will not have a holding wire on a '64 while it will on a 1965.

- There are no Fastbacks that are considered 1964 and a half models. There may be a few of the early Fastbacks assembled with left over 1964 parts however it is widely accepted that Ford never built a Fastback prior to August 17th 1964.

- The pedals on the 1964 were not made to accept a metal trim piece and therefore will not have the indentations around the edge you'll see on the 1965's.

- The rule is a Mustang with the D, F, or U engine designation is considered a definite 1964 model. Those with engine codes of either C or K were used in the 1964 and 1965 model so are of little use in identifying.

- The '64s had a center position off switch for the heater. "

Its funny how some people think they know more than Ford themselves. The truth is and regardless of that 5 in the first vin number...Ford was free to call it whatever they wanted, and in this case they called the first mustang a '64.5. You don't believe me well look at every interview with Ford execs and the previous MY anniversaries such as model years '94,'99,'04 and lastly '09. If Ford called the '15 mustang the anniversary edition i would be very surprised and shocked if they did, but as it stands it should be the '14.5.

Also Ford already started renovating Flat Rock with the $550 million investment for the plant which includes Fusion and next gen Mustang

Okay, we made a mistake. We misunderstood the information and we're sorry for causing all this confusion:

Technically, there was never a 1964 ½ MY. All production units for the 1965 MY were VIN coded for 1965, including the original production units. Any model year can have minor changes with each mid-model year production job update (I’m sure all of you knew this info already, LOL).

I’m still on the edge of my seat along with you guys to see what’s in store and for when.

I know this… 2014 MY production will begin in the first quarter of 2013 and all 2014 MY units will be 2014.

maybe Ford should recall all the (84)20th, (89)'25 years', (99)35th, (04)40th, (09)45th anniversary editions and relabel them...

really, the 50th will be the only one 'right', just gotta admit its still kinda odd they will be selling it as 6 model years after the 45th, maybe they thought noone would notice- or care

LOL The 25th anniversary badges were on 1989 and 1990 Mustangs. I know my brother's 1990 has one.
