How strong are the SN95 rear axle assemblies?

Hi, guys-
I'm hoping someone will have an answer for this.
As I understand it, the SN95 cars use an 8.8" rear with 27 spline axles...is that right?
How much power are they good for?

Are they all limited slip?

Are some years of the SN95s stronger than others?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Unless I'm mistaken they are 28 spline, not sure if I've heard of a 27 spline 8.8.

There have been reports of stock Machs having theirs snap. Mines been great with over 30+ passes at the drag strip. And it is a limited slip.

That being stated . . . when/if I change gears (Mach is 12 years old) I plan to switch to 31 spline and a Cobra differential.

Thanks... yeah, I could have been wrong on the spline count.

Sounds like it might be worth holding out for a 31 spline (or modding one from an Explorer).

Okay I maybe wrong..... if I am wrong please forgive me, I was told and read that MACH1s have the same suspension as the COBRAs minus the IRS. If we have same differential gearing, then wouldn't the differential gearing be made of the same material. Plus I had many COBRA owners that wanted to swap their IRS with my live axel so they can track their car at the strip.

Machs have 28 Spline and Cobras have 31 Spline differential, both came with 3.55 gears.

Reviving an old thread here...as much as I'd like to find a Cobra 31 spline axle assembly, I'm looking for a swap into an old Mopar.

How much power are the 28 spline 8.8s good for?

At what mileage do they tend to need a rebuild?
Again, huge thanks, guys.
