Code P1518: Inlet Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open (Ford)
Let me begin by saying that I'm not very auto savy- the bulk of my toolbox consists of my AAA card and my VISA. I feel bad that I only come here with questions and have very few answers.
That being said, the check engine light in my 2001 Mustang came on a few weeks ago and I had the code read at Advance Auto Parts. It's code P1518: "Inlet Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open (Ford)". There's been no noticeable difference in my ride/performance. I took it to my auto shop over the weekend and the mechanic told me that these 3.8L V6 Mustangs are notorious for this problem. The shop did their diagnostic, "3-step fuel system service" and reset the check engine light. Told me to drive it hoping that it would not come back on, but that its most likely going to need a IMRC and possible intake manifold if the throttle plate is stuck open. I think this is unrelated, but they told me I also have an exhaust manifold leak.
Since I'm not familiar with doing any of my own repairs, I guess I'm writing just to see if any of you have had this problem and what the outcome was. I'd like to know what I'm up against.
