The last two California dusters I have bought never quit seemed to get all the oily wax residue off them. Every time I go to dust my car off it leaves like a like streaking effect all over the car. Does anyone know of another item like the cd that they like or know of.

Try washing them in the washing machine.

Be sure NOT to use powdered soap!!

My microfibers say the same thing - no powder and do a batch without other clothes or anything. Guess some powder may not dissolve and could swirl the finish.

Yea mine does the same thing and ive had it for a year already. It buffs off pretty easily though

Wrap it in paper towels for a few days, it will draw the wax out.

I used newspapers, but basically the same principal. I had to wrap mine in newspaper several times, preferably in warmer weather, before any residue stopped getting on the paper, and consequently my paint as well. The first one I bought maybe 15 years or so ago didn't have this problem, and I was able to use it right away, but it got so filthy dirty I got rid of it and bought a new one 5-6 years ago, and it left lots of waxy residue until I got rid of most of the excess by wrapping it for a few days.

When you first get them leave them on some card board ( sort of like a card board sandwich ) it says this in the directions.

The only time that happened to me was in the morning and I didn't notice the dew moisture on the car. As long as the car was dry, the California Duster worked very well.

Yeah I have done all that. The funny thing is, the first one I had was red fibers and I had it for like 12 years. The next two I got have the grey fibers, n those r the ones I seem to have a problem with. Go figure.

FWIW, the instructions advise washing by hand in mild soap (Woolite)... I made the mistake of taking my 10+ year old duster and washing it in the washing machine with some other car care rags... made it more of a "dust mover" than a dust mop... think it removed all of the wax that snags the dirt particles.

The Duster I bought to replace it has red threads, and seems to have a much more pungent petro-smell than the original... Have left it on newspapers for a couple of days, and will advise how it performs...

I haven't had any problems with my California Mini-Duster. I didn't even wrap it in paper towel or anything when I first got it. Leaves no streaks at all and I just shake it around to get the dust out

Moved to the car care section. A redirect will be left for a few weeks.

Make sure you use it on a cool surface out of the sun. Any time I have had streaking it was because the surface was warm.

After a couple days wrapped in newspapers in the hot sun........It still took around 30 uses before it started working right. I'm very happy with it now

Wash it by hand hand in Woolite and warm water, let it dry in the sun.
When new, wrap in newspaper for a day to remove excessive wax.
And be warned, these will and do scratch cars when dirty, very fine micro scratches.
