4Star Ultimate Paint Protection (UPP) on Kona Blue
Edit: Here is a shot of what I saw walking into the garage, after 2 coats of Souveran on top of UPP. Photos are 100% unedited. It reminds me of why I detail and why I spend hours caring for my cars... for little moments like this that make me smile... lol
I will throw another 2 coats on, for good measure LOL
================================================== ======
4Star UPP (applied on Kona Blue 5.0)
I decided to take a break from my CG Blacklight and V7 this time and went with 4star UPP
Why am I reviewing such an old product? Well... I ordered this a couple years ago, when I had a black G35 and and black Altima. I loved it then, but put it aside when I got rid of both vehicles. I ended up using it on my black Odyssey...loved it so much (Again), that I decided to use it on Marilyn's Dark Kona Blue paint. Boy was I glad I did. I forgot how much I love this sealant. My plan was to top it off with Souveran or Fuzion... but it looked so good on its own, I haven't touched it yet. Maybe tomorrow.
Anyways...Marilyn was washed this morning at 6am... then spot clayed. Applied 4Star after. Let sit for 30 minutes, then removed.
It goes on as easy as any other sealant, maybe a bit runnier (make sure you shake really well). Removes easily as well. The only con I would say is it was dustier (not saying a lot, but compared to other sealants) than JetSeal, my other favorite sealant. It was really slick tho...slickest sealant I've used imo. The best part is the look. On dark paints, it just blows it out of the park. I remember now why 4Star remains one of my favorite sealants.
I can't speak to durability on either since I don't let my LSP's go that long before stripping and reapplying.
PRO's:
slick
easy to apply and remove
unbeatable on black and other dark colors
CON's:
dust
NON HDR
HDR

Nice man! When i had my 02 gt stang it was black and i started off using Klasse products. I applied by hand and even then it applied and removed just as easy as any wax. And the results blew my mind! I actually shaved using the dpor panel as a mirror a couple times! And now i use Klasse on my white sixxer and this thing shines like a glowing orb. I need to get some good night pics in a parking garage or something to show.
Btw where did you order that sealant?? Im interested in trying some out

Firstly........stunning, just stunning results!
Couple of questions, if I may?
1 - Do you buff by hand, or use an orbital polisher?
2 - Sealant. This is a new one on me. I take it it does just what it says on the tin.....ie sealing a waxed finish, but what are the benefits? Simply extending the length of time the wax stays on?
I tend to clay bar every 6 months, and wax after maybe every 3 or 4 washes. My car is a fine weather toy, so only gets used for shows and cruises, so never really gets dirty, but I do at least wash it after every event.
Just wondering if a sealant is worth the investment in time/money

I used to buff by hand, back when I first started getting into detailing, years ago. Results were good. Then I took the plunge, (was always too scared it was too hard, too dangerous, etc) and bought a buffer or dual action polisher after doing tons and tons of research. Long story short, that buffer changed my perception of detailing. The human hand and arm can never duplicate what a buffer can do. (6000+ rpm?). Anyways, if you want perfect swirl free, wet wet wet wet looking paint, you will need to buff, polish, glaze, seal, then Nuba.
Sealant.... Is similar in concept to wax. But. It is all synthetic. No natural wax from brazil. No carnauba. It's all man made polymers. So, because of this, sealants are:
Easier to apply and remove (effortless, no dust)
Über über über über slick (you'll feel the difference between regular wax, night and day)
Dust-repelling anti static properties
Durability range of 4 - 7 months depending on brand/type and method of application, and temp, humidity, frequency of wash, etc
Gives you a different "look". More glossy shimmer. New sealants are now looking wetter and wetter like high end Nuba waxes...evidenced by 4star
Can be topped with a Nuba, since acts as a base lsp. When topped, you get best of both worlds. Wet look, but very durable and dust repelling. Make sense?

Excellent, thank you for the reply. I really must invest in a dual action polisher. I guess I've always been scared that I'd actually use it incorrectly and damage the paintwork, the complete opposite of what I'd want to achieve!
Still, I guess I'd practise on the daily driver. That's a silver BMW e46 330i, and is sooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier to keep clean than my black Mustang!!!
Keep posting pics of you Kona Blue.....its just the inspiration I need
