Engine Swap Question

I am a long time admirer of the vintage Ford Mustang and I am getting ready to buy my first one. I have found a "perfect 1965" straight coupe, clean and original. Problem is (for me anyway) is that it has an I6 engine. I really want a V8 either 289 or 302. I know these engines will fit the engine bay just fine but I am wondering if anything else needs to be done to the frame, suspension, drive train etc to accommodate the larger engine? Thanks!

get the v8 motor mounts for 66 and it bolts in

I just got a 66 coupe i6 and am doing the same thing. You will need to get a trans cross member for the one you use. Also you have a 7 inch rear end in it, 4 lug, may want to swap that out..

I got a 99 mustang gt rear end and am using modern mustang rims to offset the wideness of the rear end. You could cut it down to factory 66 size, but i like modern rims better..

as for the front disk, you will need v8 spindles and get the disk brake kit. I have also been told a 99-2004 brake master cylinder and booster fit. will be verifying it soon.

You'll also want to upgrade front spindles and suspension. This article is a good read for the swap:
