Convertible Help
Hi, I have a 2005 mustang with a black convertible top that recently got slashed. Now there is a gash in the rear right panel of the top and rather than go for a temporary solution, I am looking to replace the top altogether. Where would I be able to find one in San Diego, CA or nearby. And who might I go look to install the replacement?

That slash makes my chest hurt. Sorry it happened.
My only advice is to beware of cheapo replacements. You get what you pay for when it comes to quality tops. I guess it depends what condition your Mustang is in too.

That really sucks!!! Stupid people have no respect for other people's property.
I had to replace my top in 2009 when the glass separated from the top itself due to the glue debonding. I think it was the result of the idiot that installed my window tint using a Bernzomatic torch to dry the window film, but I could never prove it.
I replaced it with a factory cloth top for about $1200 IIRC, and it cost me another $350 to have it installed by a reputable shop. Too bad you aren't closer or I would give you their recommendation - they are in Ontario, CA and the dealerships all use them to do any convertible repairs.
I would *not* do the convertible replacement myself. One look at the box and all of the fittings, hardware, and other things that need to be aligned *just right* and I decided I needed a pro.
You may want to ask your local dealer service department who they use to do vert repairs (that's how I found my guys).
Do you have full coverage insurance? If so, you can submit a claim under your comprehensive insurance for vandalism to the car, that's a covered loss. Might be worth exploring - you won't be out the full hit for a FACTORY top (don't go aftermarket!! Be warned!).
Good luck and keep us posted!
EDIT: Oh, and PS: Get the 2007+ CLOTH top, you'll be WAY happier with it than the crappy vinyl tops that came with our 2005 model years... trust me on that one!
